If you use drop d tuning, I have found that the Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings work better than any electric set I have ever used.
The gauges for these strings are:
10-13-17-30-42-52

The heavier low e string can be cranked on with out the string flopping around as much when I drop tune.

what is the lowest you tune down to shaun? i use this same string gauge for my guitars too. i tried EB strings before but they didn't sound as bright and alive or stay in tune as well as the blue steel's i use. hmm.........maybe i should give a stainless slinky set a try?

Any recommendations for Bass players who like to play in Drop D even though they have a Stingray5?

What gauge string are you using for your B string? The heaviest gauge string we make is a .130. If you tune your B to an A, there will be quite a bit of slack in your string.

I am currently using the .130's that come in the standard EB 5 string set. And you are right.. there is too much slack now to really get any good stuff from about fret 5 and up. (ie. the only useful notes are A, Bb, B, C and C#). I can only recommend it for heavy tunes written in D or A but you can get some punchy D5 or A5 intervals for intro/outro stuff.
However, because there are only 5 useful notes on the string, this leads to more position shifting then I really like to do on a 5-string. This is why I was wondering if you had any recommendations.
I would also like to see EB 5-string packs with a heavier gauge G sting like the regular 4 string series but that is another story.

oh yeah, just wanted to say i use to use Blue Steel .52-10 but i just got a few sets of stainless slinky's for registering my new axis with you guys. and i must say i now prefer the stainless slinkys .46-10 sets. their awesome. now i'm hooked on EB strings.
