OK, so I'm feeling very uninspired after working the day at a cool little independent music shop(new job for me) but then putting the kids to bed as the missus is out tonight on business, then i try to get motivated to chart out a couple of tunes for a singer I'm playing for on friday and saturday (along with learning the 7 other charted tunes) but as I'm watching the fireworks in NYC and the Boston Pops as well I was dickin' around with the eq to kind of cut through the CD track in my headphones.... OMGosh!!! ya gotta try soloing the neck humbucker, rolling off a little of the highs and cranking the lo-mids to almost full, what a cool tone.
I'm tellin' ya, does it ever end with this bass!??!!! :D

I know I have to try something different at some point, but I'm still quite enamored with the onboard controls set flat. I will try your suggestion after I've finished my morning tea.

One of the sounds I really like on my Bongo 4 with dead DR Hi-Beams strings comes from having the most of the pickup pan dailed to the neck side, cutting the highs, leaving the lows flat, and bumping both the low and high mids just a tad. It's that "P-bass on steroids" sound we're always talking about. It's friggin' sweet! :D

On a side note, I've just returned from a trip with my buddies for the 4th of July weekend. When I got home, I picked up the Bongo and played it a bit. Woo! I just love playing that thing. :D
