I bought some dunlops for my SR5.

They freak me out.

To me it seems like to stick WAAAYYY too far out from the body of the bass.

Is it just me?

You'll get used to them. They work great and will save your valuable instrument. I've got 20+ instruments, all with Dunlop straplocks, and can't speak highly enough of their peace of mind value.

i use schallers, they are built like little tanks to me and ive never worried about em.
I use Schallers on my MMs so I only have to take the neck side of the strap off to put it in the case.......Dunlops stick out too far. I do have them on a couple of non-EBMM basses though.

Dunlops, years, never failed, never come loose, the strap ends are a huge pain but worth it, so just listen to Mark.

I've got Dunlop strap locks on my instruments, have used them for years. Never had a problem. I have used the Shaller ones too long ago, as far as I can tell they work just as well, just a slightly different design.

Then what do you use to re-seal the bottles when you fill them with homebrew?

Not got round to brewing my own yet!

Seriously though, they work a treat.

The only time i've ever dropped one of my basses was using a strap lock. Granted, i'm certain it was my ignorance and not a defective piece of equipment. I don't use em now

Never had any problems with the Dunlops... but the Schallers are a different story. Twice the top has loosened up enough to let the whole mechanism come apart (even worse, it happened both times in the middle of a show). I've also had the screw pull right out in the middle of a song... I know that isn't related to the straplock, but I just haven't had any luck with Schallers. Yeah, the Dunlops look a bit funny but I have never had a problem with them.

You do have to make sure the nut on the strap stay tight with the Schallers.

I love my Dunlop straplocks. And, they have never looked odd on any of my basses--except my Bongos. I really didn't like the way they looked, so I got some recessed Dunlops for both of my Bongos.

Here are some fresh pics:

The rubber grommet is now sitting flush against the bass. Apparently, I hadn't screwed it in all the way before I took the pics. Whoops.

Here's Moby:

I like that idea. However, if you lose the strap that has the other "end" - you're screwed.....
