It takes a split second for your bass to come loose and hit the ground. From then on you will use strap locks. I started with Schalers and have used them for 15+ years. Don't know which one is better because I've always danced with the one who brung me.

I'm too fat to jump, but I had a few near misses with my stingray before I put Dunlop straplocks on it. Usually because of a twisted strap... luckily I caught it each time.

I've used Dunlops for years without a problem. I'm sticking with what works.

I think Dunlops may be a little cheaper ( to purchase) than Schaller. I do pay in the neighborhood of $20 dollars here in the local store for the Schallers. Even at that I am sure my bass isn't getting dropped so I don't feel bad for money spent.

Dunlop straplocks on MusicMan StingRay
As stated before in this post, the screw head of Dunlop straplocks is smaller than the original screws. The original screw matches otherwise but the head is larger and the screw is ~1cm longer. I haven't installed the straplocks because I'm afraid that the Dunlops shorter screw will come out of the original screw hole because its shorter. I haven't found original identical screw with smaller head either. So, no solution right now, I just can't rock so hard.
Possible solution:
a. find an longer Dunlop identical screw - no success yet.
b. trim the head of the original screw - really don't want to mess the originals, if I had another set, I would.
Anyone installed Dunlops on MusicMan Stingray. What was the solution when it comes to the screws?

I've done it too many times to remember with absolutely no problems using the Dunlop screw. With that said, have you tried the new EB strap locks? I have not had an opportunity yet, does look like a good system though.

Do the Ernie Ball straplocks grip onto the strap pins or are they free to rotate?

Unfortunately I overtightened one screw on my DD SR4, so I had to give it to a luthier and have the screwhole filled and re-drilled (somehow this just doesn't sound right... :-/)
If I hadn't already bought and installed dozens of Dunlops, I'd probably use EBMMs instead.

guys!! the EB straplocks are FAR FAR superior to any other acme brand I've ever tried.
They rotate brilliantly, lock securely, release without that wrestle you can sometimes need with schallers... and best of all they look cool
big thanks to ritchie for shipping my sterling with them on, i'm definitely getting some for the bongo and my other basses too...

I have Ernie Ball Super Locks on all of my instruments. They are the best in my opinion. They are the newest and have the best design.

I wouldn't mind trying a set of the Ernie Balls except my only reservation is all my basses and straps are already setup with the Schallers.
