Early Stingray Tracks

I've been trying to compile a list of well known tracks that feature early 2-band Stingrays. Can anyone help?

I know queen used a stingray...as did the adicts...i think jethro tull used one as well at some point. That's all just based off pictures on VH1's hundred best artist in hard rock. Except for the adicts. I saw pictures of them playing on the internet

Dougie Thompson of Supertramp played a StingRay on most, if not all, of their "Breakfast in America" album (1979). Check out songs such as "The Logical Song", "Goodbye Stranger" and "Take the Long Way Home". This goes to show that a StingRay isn't just a "slap-machine". Dougie Thompson plays some great melodic bass lines and his fat & warm StingRay tone will send a chill up your spine. Headphones are a must to really hear his StingRay in its full glory!

But speaking of a StingRay being a slap-machine...check out some of Louis Johnson's incredible bass-work with The Brothers Johnson. The albums "Blam!" (1978) and "Light Up the Night" (1980) are full of "in-yo-face" slapping on a StingRay...and once you hear this, it's pretty obvious where Flea got his early inspiration to thump a 'Ray. Some of the more well-known tracks from these two albums are "Stomp", "Ain't We Funkin' Now" and "Light Up the Night". And don't forget about Louis Johnson's work with Michael Jackson...you can hear his StingRay on tracks such as "Rock With You" and "Off the Wall".

A lot of "AC/DC" recordings use a 2 bander 'Ray. I'll have a dig around.

For early 'ray sounds, you can add some of these :

- Defunkt "Thermonuclear Sweat", 1983 - Kim Clarke. Also "In America". She has a great sound - highly underrated
- Louis Johnson (as mentioned above) "Blam" is the best BJ album for the stingray sound. Plus loads of sessions, esp Off the Wall
- Ian Drury "4000 weeks holiday", 1983 - Michael McEvoy. Half jazz, half ray across the album - the 'ray tracks really stand out. Great recorded sound
- John Schofield "Loud Jazz", "Pick Hits Live" - Gary Grainger
- Pino on Gary Numan's I Assassin
- Bernard Edwards on various early Chic, Sister Sledge plus Diana Ross "Diana"
- Cameo "She's strange" & "Single Life" albums
