My bass quit last night. 4 year old SR 4-3 band. loud farting noise, then nothing. cleaned input jack, checked/replaced battery and checked and cleaned the contacts in the battery compartment. checked wiring of the jack, and visually inspected all wiring as well as the preamp board. Tried with a different amp and cord also. I am one of the guys who had the low output on the G and D strings a while back. does EB sell a pickup and preamp? how about a new jack and battery compartment as long as I'm doing everything else. If so, does anyone have part #'s and an idea on pricing? Thanks

Make sure the contacts in the battery box are not flat. If they are, GENTLY bend them in, so they touch the battery.

I tried that when I was checking the guitar. at the end of the batt. box wires, I was getting the right voltage. thanks for the info, though. I have copied the bolt pattern and size of the battery box and am making a cover out of black pickguard matl. that will screw on, using a regular 9volt connector and some tastefully applied foam so the batt. doesnt rattle. there is room for 2 9-volts if I decide to go with an aftermarket pre and pickup. Some of them use 18 volts. have had issues with that batt. box since the first time I replaced the battery. I can already hear some of you freaking out, but I will keep the stock stuff for the future (even though something is wrong with it) and have not/wont make any mods that cant be reversed.

the input jack could be causing this too, its kinda like a stereo 1/4" one of the leads is used to 'turn the pre-amp on' I suppose you could say. if the tab is not making good contact with the cord, or one of the leads on the jack has come loose this could cause this problem as well..
