Got my Fretboard Conditioner Wonder Wipes today and tried them on the maple neck of my Warmoth custom Tele. This has a satin finish on it but it's rubbed off in places and the wood is discolouring. As far as I can tell, the WWs have made no difference at all. No dirt came off on the wipe as I used it. I just ended up with oily hands.

Hi. The instrument cleaner Wonderwipes would be the ones for cleaning. The fretboard conditioner wipes help keep rosewood fretboards looking fresh and happy, and in my experience help prevent or reverse fret sprout.

Using the fretboard conditioner on a sealed neck like yours would be like using armor-all tire dressing on the paint of your car. Just makes kind of an oily mess.

Hope this helps!

Speaking of which... I need to pick up some fretboard conditioner... LOVE LOVE LOVE the instrument wipes. Not too fond of the string cleaner. It works like it should, but seems a little unnecessary to me and can put little knotted threads on your strings if you're not careful. They are hard to get off too!

Well, as has already been said, the fretboard conditioner is a conditioner. Not a cleaner.

Great. I just wasted £8.00 on the wrong product.

Let me get this right. You guys are using Instrument Polish to clean sweat dirt out of maple necks? :/

It's been recommended here that when you use the conditioner on a maple neck you should wipe down the neck afterward with a clean cloth or papertowel.

WW's aren't meant for "finished" (poly/nitro etc) necks, but they do clean and condition EBMM oil finished maple necks, including fretboards.

I personally think they're great for occasional rosewood board cleaning and conditioning, and limit their use to that.

I need to clean the neck on my MM EVH - do I use the Wonder Wipe Instrument Cleaner and then back that up with the conditioner? I've never cleaned it and it's pretty nasty and kind of sticky at the moment.. any info is greatly appreciated!

I'd try the fretboard conditioner, I used it on mine with great results

Sounds to me like he bought a product without knowing what it was intended to be used on...

Since we're talking 'bout Wonder Wipes, I *wonder*, are the Instrument Polish wipes supposed to be kinda wet?

Mine are quite dry...dry as in I feel NOTHING on my hands or fingers after I use them. If that's correct, I'm ok...they take the dust off quite nicely.

Just checking...my wifey found them and I'm not sure how old they were when she bought them. The seal was fine on all three types so I'm guess they are the way the are supposed to be but I wanted to check to make sure.

They sure did make the finish look purdy...I can say that:):)!

Funny, I thought the same thing. If anything, there's maybe a slight hint of moisture when polishing that quickly dissipates.

I even kinda bummed out one day when I realized that I left the cap open overnight - thought they were dry to begin with, and were now ruined, perhaps.....the top one or two maybe were only a little affected...

And yes, they work quite well.

They aren't supposed to be dripping wet. They have a little bit of moisture that evaporates quickly. If you left it open then after the first couple the rest of the wipes should be fine.
So that's the way they're supposed to be,

Yeah, the instruments wipes are pretty dry. I thought mine "went bad", but I guess that is the way they are supposed to be.

I am now out of them too... I should have put the WWs on my Christmas Wishlist along with Super Slikys. ;)

I think I'll be treating myself to the Wonder Wipe set. Only this time I'm getting the bigger tubes :D

The string wipes are unnecessary IMO. I'd rather just change strings than have to hit each string with the wipe. I LOVE the instrument wipes though. I've not tried the fretboard wipes, but i will be making a trip to the local music store soon to pick some up... My rosewood boards are looking a little thirsty...
