Eh--soloing is fun! I can hold down the pocket as well as the next guy, but I restrung my Black Sapphire Bongo with TI Flats tuned EADGC last night so I could get back into chordal work and some higher register solos. Plus, with three 5 strings set up with flats, I figured I had enough to get some different tunings going...
One of my big problems with 6 string basses (besides the numb hands trying to reach down to the low B on a six string neck) has always been that the high C string tends to get lost in a mix with the rest of a band playing. I think the 4 band Bongo EQ is ideal to dial in a usable sound that will help the higher string cut through when I am playing across the neck.
I haven't set it up, yet, but I'll be sure to let everyone know how the compensated nut works with the tuning.

Well since this thread was resurrected, I almost jumped from 4 to 6. I wanted to be able to do easy two octave runs all over the place. The weight and the lack of a 6 from my preferred brands killed this John Myung fantasy.

Heh, since this thread was awakened I will now say this: If there came to be that there was a signature model for some famous bassist, and that bass just happened to be a 6-string Bongo, I think I would buy one. I think.

Have you seen what Jauqo does with his basses?
Gs are for treble-loving wimps. Same goes for Ds and As.
