There is a bass company here in Greensboro that builds a 3 string bass. Someone at the local bar said that this is nothing new. He said that EBMM built one for an artist, the story went something like. "How come you play a 3 string bass?" the artist said "Because EBMM wouldn't build him a 2 string bass."

Is there any seed of truth in this?

I've got money riding on this, but I ain't saying which way... :D

Thanks

That was one of the answers given in top 10 format by Tony Levin in Bass PLayer magazine (the one with him and the three string on the cover...) to the question "Why 3 strings?" Considering that one of the other answers was, "Because G strings are for strippers," I'm not thinking it was meant as "truth."

But, yes, that is one of the answers that T Levin gave.

Tony Levin DID have a 3-string Music Man bass made for him.

Unfortunately it perished in a fire. He did send it in for repair, though.. jokingly.
I think Big Poppa told the story somewhere on this board, if not, maybe he'll tell it now.

Hope your money was on this side of the bet!

Reminds me of the classic answer basketball player and noted gunner Antoine Walker gave when asked why he shot so many 3 pointers?

ANS: Because there are no 4's.
