I would only buy Axis guitars now. They are the same guitar for much cheaper!

+1 as well, which makes it +2.

Unless you're just dying to get your hands on it for the collectibility factor, the Axis really is a better, improved successor to the EVH model. Proof that you can make a great guitar even better.

I could have gotten 2-3 Axis guitars for the price of 1 EVH model, at least at the prices I've seen them go for. And if I ever did own a EBMM EVH, I'd actually be afraid to 1) play it, 2) let any sunlight touch it, and 3) ever let it leave a case.

Sound like you've made a great choice with the LE ASS. You can go wrong with a nice ASS!!!

My EVH hardtail is 10 years old and has been gigged to death! Its been re-fretted once and is covered in dings and dents from the road. Whilst its lost a good proportion of its value, I have done 100's of great gigs with it, and have enjoyed using it as it was designed. Its not for sale, so resale value is not an issue!

Newb here.

I saw a CL ad & had a chance to buy a Trans Blue EVH back in 9/2017. I checked out the guitar & it was in, for the most part, excellent cosmetic condition. I didn't hear any significant difference compared to a Purple Tribute Axis I had recently bought in 6/2017. The seller's asking price for the EVH was slighlty less that $3K. I couldn't justify buying a guitar for that much $s considering a used Axis in the same condition can be found for ~$1K or less. I passed on the EVH.

Here are 2 of my Axis Tributes.

The pic on the left is the very first Axis I bought in 6/2017. Since then, I've acquired 7 other Axis, including the Tribute in the pic on the right. I'll be locally checking out a Green Axis c. 2000 in a couple of weeks :D

ASS all the way. Just remember in all cases the necks are hand sanded after profiling... there is variation. So, if a sexy feeling neck is what you seek... play before pay... make sure it’s the right one. I’ve had a few that were just slightly chunkier and I have wee little fingers/hands, so very noticeable for me. Just my 2 cents.

Glad I didn't resurrect the thread...but since it is semi-current I will post here instead of starting yet another Axis thread.

I have arthritis and I have been doing a lot of research and I keep reading people raving about how comfortable the Axis necks are. Not just on this site but everywhere. I have never tried one, but they look nice and all those people can't be wrong...I hope. ;-).

I am going to check one out tomorrow for sure(quilt top) and maybe another one later if I don't like the neck on the first one.

What I need is a slimmer neck profile...Ibanez Wizard...slim C etc. I was hoping someone could tell me which neck is more shallow from a picture. Maybe a lot to ask, but I thought I would give it a shot.

These are the two guitars:

Music man axis - musical instruments - by owner

80's Music man Axis - musical instruments - by owner

Any insight, on the necks, prices or just general or specific comments are welcome and would also be appreciated. I know nothing about these guitars.

Thanks in advance.

The necks are the same profile. Originally 'mapped' from an asymmetrical worn Kramer Baretta neck. Other than the minute difference from individual wear, they should be fairly identical.

Thanks Neanderpaul, they sure look different. I thought maybe the neck might be thicker where the bolts are drilled through. on the one style. Good to have the input from someone who knows.

Neanderpaul is almost right here but off by about 1/32". The Axis neck IS very close to the EVH neck except they made it 1/32" wider at the neck pocket end of the neck because the EVH had a slight problem where fretting the high-E string up high you could easily pull the string down (towards your knees) off the fretboard.

On the Axis the knob is located different than the EVH. And on the Axis there is a tummy cut on the back that wasn't on the EVH.

Hi dibart, although I am a complete newbie, I think Paul may have been completely right. The two necks were both Axis necks. no EVHers ;-) But thanks for showing enough interest to respond.

At any rate, I bought the quilt top. I bought this guitar for $1650.00 CAD(I live in Vancouver, Canada)$1260.00 USD.

It is virtually new. There aren't even any surface scratches. The neck isn't broken in. It is in showroom condition, without a word of exaggeration.

Pictures off my phone do not do this guitar justice at all.

I have been playing longer than I care to admit, but have never owned an EBMM guitar. Been mostly a Gibson/Fender/Kramer/Ibanez guy. But this guitar is as nice as any of them and nicer than most. I guess I made the mistake of overlooking this brand, but I already want another one.

Excuse the mediocre photos.

Oops, you're right. Earlier in the thread was comparing Axis neck to EVH neck -- I misunderstood and thought that's what you were asking. Sorry Paul!
