Hello EBMM forum,

I have recently picked up playing again after a very long hiatus. I currently have a mid 90's Gibson Explorer. The ergonomics of this instrument are getting to me for practice sessions. I have started shopping out new guitars. My main desires for this purchase are Ergonomics, Light Weight, Well Balanced and a floating tremolo

It didn't take long to find myself on the Ernie Ball site. Right now, the Majesty really has my eye.

One thing really lacking here though, is some kind of summary of the differences between the different guitar models. Honestly, the guitar page almost feels like the various models are randomly distributed with no rhyme or reason. The ability to compare instruments doesn't exist. I did a forum search without success. The closest I found via google is the end of the review found here:

MusicPlayers.com: Reviews > Guitars > Music Man John Petrucci JPXI Electric Guitar

This table is pretty good and only lacks the last few models. It won't take long to update. I just wanted to point this out. Of course there is a similar problem with the other lines that I haven't bothered Googling around for yet.

Anyway, EBMM and Ibanez are currently on my short list. I am pretty sure it will end up being a Music Man within the next year.

Thanks.

Maybe not the style you're after, but the Luke III fits this description to a "T" as well...

Quite honestly, this is where EBMM really shines. All their models are light weight and perfectly balanced. My preference is the Silhouette models. Kind of 'Strat'-ish in shape and playability, but quite unique.

You should be able to compare the specs by clicking on the images of the guitars on the music-man.com website. Do a little research and ask around here. You'll probably find something you will really like.

The Majesty is supposed to weigh in around six pounds. Of course everything else about it is going to be awesome too. I'm most excited about this guitar above all others and can't wait to try one!

I was also thinking of the Lukes. Very comfortable guitars.

Welcome to the forum!

I would think the best is to get to a store, like a bigger GC, and try all the models and see which one you like the most.

haha - finally, some useful advice. The rest of us have simply created a list of every ebmm with a floating trem.

The only line of Ibanez that competes with EBMM is the Jcustom series, other than that, EBMM slaughters Ibanez and I say that as a full blown ibanez fan haha.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'll definitely take all this information into consideration.

Sometime this weekend, I'll share a google docs spreadsheet for the Petrucci series. I took the comparison table from the link in my original post and expanded on it to include the latest models and some additional info.

I might go ahead and do the same for the rest of the guitars.

I was in a similar position recently, though in my case it was a choice of upgrading to a pro level instrument after playing an Ibanez S470 for 10 years. I narrowed it down to one of the Ibanez RG Prestige Models and the MM Majesty. I chose the Majesty and it is probably the wisest gear purchase I have ever made in a 16 year, $15,000+ invested playing career.

I own 5 different models and can truly say that they're all lightweight and ergonomic. As far as comparison goes, think about each signature model and the different playing styles of those who "sign" them. If your style is partial to one of these players, try that model first. I have no problem transitioning from my EVH to my Axis, to my Super Sport, to my Reflex, to my Silhouette Sp. They're all equally comfy and a joy to play. Good luck!

in all seriousness though, what type of music are you going to be playing?

Many of the artist models are pretty much tailored to the specific artist, so something like a Silhouette Special, Albert Lee or Axis Super Sport may be more suitable/versatile than the various JP Models, the Luke Models, Steve Morse models, etc.

As for comfort, I have never played an uncomfortable music man. they have great neck joints, and the necks are super comfy and easy to play.
