I got a new EBMM JPXI 7-string just recently and I've noticed that strange metallic noise coming from the bridge while muting out the string immediately after hitting. I've recorded both with distorted patch (it's audible with a high gain sound) and unplugged.
this is not a problem with the noisegate, my JPX 6-string does something similar but in a radically smaller scale, and it doesn't pertrude at high volumes.
also it is not a noise-gate thing.

halp

A few possible causes.

It could be a resonance frequency in the trem springs. Paper towels in the spring cavity will do the trick, or something inside the srpings themselves. (Steve Vai does this too incidentally).

It could also be strings ringing behind the nut. Try using a scrunchie to damp the strings.

It could be a harmonic caused by the muting position of the picking hand (especially with high gain), in which case adjust your picking hand position or muting technique.

And somebody here said a spring or clip or something which vibrates on the pickup or the bridge? I don't remember exactly but it was an easy fix. Can anyone remember that one? Beej?

well f**k me.

a combination of scrunchie and bondage-taping the springs in tremolo did the trick.

thanks a lot guys.

My Axis made a noise similar to that when I played a certain note. Since I've switched to higher gauge strings and added a spring, I didn't realize that the noise disappeared until I listened to your sample.

With a ton of gain, you're going to hear all kinds of strange things like ringing springs. It would probably sound more natural (have some decay) if the gate didn't kick in.
