Question EBMM Necks that don't fit your fancy (and favorites?)

1. Has anyone here noticed an EBMM neck that just doesn't work for them?
2. Has anyone found there to be a specific model with the perfect neck for them? (if you like'em all equally, that doesn't count!)
3. What are some of your experiences with adjusting to different neck profiles?

I bring this up because I was GASing hard for a LukeIII and a Darklord sometime over the last couple years, but when I got around to playing them, they just weren't for me. Especially the Darklord- I had grabbed a relatively well setup one at a GC and in about a couple minutes my GAS was relieved.

Now to be constructive, and here is why I am posting this question at all, I find that the LukeIII HSS just has a lot of features that look/sound very nice. I only got to try a Rosewood necked one, and not a Roasted necked one, so I haven't gotten a chance to try the one I would have wanted anyway. So the 3rd question is really to find out whether I need more than 15-30 minutes with one to gel with a new neck profile, or if it should just work? It only took me a few minutes to get used to an asymmetrical neck, so I am not sure about needing more time.

My two balls are the most comfortable necks I have ever played on, and that compares to other Morses, Y2Ds, Silhouettes, Axises, JPs, and Lukes. I might say that the Morse is my favorite neck profile, even though my Silhouette is my numero uno.

Based on my experience you know if a guitar neck is OK within 15 minutes. Then again, the taste of necks might change over time, too.

i tried a silhouette once and remember it didn't work for me at all...but i seem to recall it had more to do with the pickup config. than the neck. i also tried an albert at GC in san francisco a couple years ago...and i really wanted to like it but there was something about the low E string that wasn't right for me...i think it was just that particular guitar and setup, though.

OTOH, i have a couple steve morse models and petrucci models. i love them both, but the jp really just fits me the best.

To me, the biggest concern with EBMM lies on fretwire size, because I like huge jumbo frets, and most EBMM necks have medium to small frets.

I really liked my JP6 and had it for some time. However when I gigged (standing position for 2 hours) my forearm cramped up.

At this point some body made me an offer for it, out of the blue, so I sold it.

I love the Albert/EVH/Axis/Silo necks which to me feel very similar.

I've only tried a Luke once, an it was only for a few minutes, but I knew after I'd spend about 15 seconds with it, that that neck profile just wasn't for me. On the other hand I absolutely love my Axis.

Same here... I bought the RW neck Luke that Larry had for sale on here a little while ago and it was my first foray into Lukes, and I didn't jive with it at all, simply because the V was too pronounced. The guitar was weighted perfectly, shaped perfectly, and sounded fantastic though so it was kind of disappointing.

That being said, I've also owned enough JP's to know that the neck profiles aren't always the same. The thinnest one I had was a JPX in Barolo, and the thickest one I had was a Dargie II BFR (I did a hardware swap on those guitars too.. Dargie with black looked uber cool ) and I much preferred the Dargie. It was only marginally thicker, but enough to feel.

I have a JP13 now thats somewhere in the middle, and feels wonderful. This is my 2nd JP13 too, and it feels even slightly different than the other one.

Maybe someday I'll try another luke, but not sight unseen.

I currently have 10 EBMM guitars (and no other brands). Of mine - my least favorite is my Luke(2), but by contrast my two of my most favorites are my Luke 3's.

My Luke(2) neck feels much small and strings spacing feels tighter than either of L3's. I am also very fond of my Silo Special, JP6 and my most recent AL SSS.

I tried to like and just couldn't bond with the Luke. Didn't work for me... sucks too because I had a DD1 Luke! I originally bonded with the Axis... but after a few year it was not doing it for me. I love love love the Shilouette( I need to get one again!) and the Sub Guitar. in fact, that sub was almost perfect. I keep my Eye out for deals on those... I love that matte finish!....

I tried the JP 11 and 12 and that radius also didn't do it for me... so I stuck with the JP6 and JPX. Then the Majesty Came out and split the different between that 15 and the 20 radius and... I can't put the that thing down! Still love my JP6 and JPX (and SUB) but the Majesty has all the controls, wood and aesthetics.. it's just PERFECT for me!

Favourite Albert Lee and least favourite Luke , if I could find a PDN Neptune Luke 3 with the taller frets here in the UK I would give it another try but alas none to be found

I just got my L 3 HSS roasted maple neck a few weeks ago. I've been playing a Wolfgang for about 10 years. I also play classical guitar and I 'm used to a bigger neck. I always thought the Wolf was one of the most comfortable guitars I ever played (assymetrical neck). When I first played the L3 my fingers were all over the place. I wasn't used to it. I played it for a few days and really got comfortable with it. The next time I played the Wolf the neck seemed fat and awkward. That's not the reality; it just seemed that way. I also went to a local shop and played a Strat recently and it felt uncomfortable. I was considering a Strat. It's a fine guitar. But I'm really lovin the Luke ... the quality, look, sound and feel is awesome? Like all MMs, it's a step above. That's my experience.

The JP is the only neck I don't gel with, but for some odd reason I never sold or traded it, as I like to pull it out and play it every now and then.

I love my JPXI with the 20" (50.8 cm) Neck Radius.

I feel that the Axis, Albert Lee, and the Dark Lord all have fat profiles, so that's an easy transition. Even going over from those three to the Luke is easy. I think string spacing and neck scale has a lot to do with the awkwardness you feel when switching from one guitar to another, and those factors don't apply in this scenario. My favorite neck profile is the Luke III.

Axis neck is my favorite ebmm neck, i really love the necks on the peavey wolfgang! Those are great! But the axis is just as good just narrower and fatter.
