I think it has to do with the smaller width coupled with just enough "meat" to hang on to on the axis necks....so damn comfortable, and the almost raw wood is so sensual. I am totally hooked. My other guitars are just no fun anymore. DAMN YOU, for making such addictive necks.

Totally agree. Thats an excellent way to describe the neck on the Axis. Also the fret work on EBMM necks is amazing.

I was mulling this through the other day too and whilst looking at the neck on my JP I noticed that the edges of the fretboard are kind of sloped in ever so slightly I'd never really noticed it before - at least not visually - I'm sure that contributes.

Some companies even make a big issue out of this saying that the fretboard edges are rounded off for a "worn in" kind of feel.

I think this, along with choice woods, great design and CRAFTSMANSHIP and PRIDE make EB necks the best out there!

+1 Trev. I was fortunate enough to have one of the newer strats as my first electric - they advert the "rolled C-shape necks" and it feels freakin' awesome.

SO...when looking for the new addition, the Axis blew me away with the feel.

I had Jackson RR, Japan Custom...the neck was very comfortable and fast, BUT when I touched EBMM JP I realized that my entire world ruined upon my feet :) If you want to find something that is made with the precision, soul and sacrifice you'll find it in Ernie Ball MusicMan guitars! I love that neck finish which is only oiled and waxed (correct me please if I'm wrong)...it sets my hand in the way I want. And if I play fast lick starting from nut and ending up in the stratosphere (my friend calls high frets like that) I feel so comfortable...in my previous guitars with finished necks after few hours of playing I used to feel burn on my thumb...I play a lot on my JP and haven't found that here...

in general...I can't think of other guitar/neck thenEBMM! Ernie Ball For Life!

BTW. I know it's probably stupid question, but BP, how did you find out that unfinished neck was and is what guitar needs to be perfect ? :)
