Great reviews just keep pouring in on TGP. Interesting to see. I haven't seen that sort of enthusiasm for any other makers there, except in the higher end niche categories, and then still not with the number of enthusiasts. Maybe rattle a few traditionalists' cages  .

A) I think that's a Tele, not an ASAT
B) He's playing through a different amp which make a huge difference anyway
C) The recording sucks on the version where he is playing a tele and the other video is much newer, hence albert has had years to refine his skill between when the two videos were shot
D) Even if it were an ASAT, it's nothing like the one I'm talking about, which is much more like a tele thinline custom (if such a thing even exists). And that is much different from an AL. Totally different bridge design, different body shape, semi-hollow design, different pickups, etc.

There's no reason to "stick up" for the AL, because nobody said anything bad about them. I myself chose the AL over an ASAT. I'm just saying that I don't think one is a replacement for the other, and since we agree at least that they sound different, maybe we can leave it at that?

I already pointed out that it was a Tele. I don't see anyone here doggin' G&L, including myself. However, people do express their preferences.

I reply
A) I went with the fact that it was an ASAT, Candid and yourself now inform me that it's a Tele. Whatever .... I think it doesn't chime as good as the AL.
B]Albert could play through a toilet pan and still sound good (that's a joke by the way!!)
C) Albert played that on the Heads Hands and Feet album in 1971, and wrote it before that date. I think he's beyond refining it. I've seen him play it a couple of times live - awesome. Check one of my earlier posts when I uploaded a video clip of him playing live - even recorded through a crappy camera mike his tone is still awesome.
D)You have taken "sticking up" completely out of context.

I wasn't impressed with the tone trovato got out of the "thinline" ASAT but as you said earlier on that could be down to amp set up along with a lot of other factors.

If you have read any of my earlier posts I have advocated a "thinline" type AL but due to it's design I don't think it's practical. There again who am I - just an old has been guitarist. :D
