My band plays original rock with elements of folk, prog, blues, jazz and anything else that has influenced us.

I call it "rock" when forced to put a label on it.

As a player, I play anything but rap (which usually has no guitar anyway). I like to jam along with really different kinds of music, like new age, flamenco, shred, 80's pop (or "new wave" as it was called back then), classic rock.. I guess I really don't play any country music either, but it's not intentional. I have a cousin who is a first-rate country guitarist and he's got great chops that I respect a lot.

I know that some of you will hate this idea, but I think a good excercise is to throw on Yanni's "Tribute" album and try to mimic the violin player on guitar (on the song "Renegade"). The girl who plays the violin on that album can really throw down, and I like to try to out-play her, but in the same style. Try it before you knock it.

I play Nu Jazz progressive buble gum voodoo blues with sort of a deth metal vibe enhanced by the r&b tip, combined with afrocentric euro highlights. If it was easy everybody would be doing it.

Damn!!! I thought i had invented that.

Oh well back to the drawing board - must find unique style

I chose shred even though I suck at it. I like to call it "experimental shred". :D

that's a pretty cool response. I finally gave up a couple of years ago and started calling my alleged 'style' "quasi-experimental" - which basically says absolutely nothing...

experimental shread is a pretty nifty term. wish I had thought of that.
