Has anyone comparded a Ball with a Piezo
with an actuall acoustic electric? I'm curious
how it compares, It would be a great excuse
to get another Al or a JP6.

While my JP doesn't sound 100% like the real thing, (it simply won't cuz it is what it is, a solid body guitar - even JP uses Taylors for recording) its still the most "acousticy" sounding piezo guitar I've ever tried. Frank, from Egnater even commented on how close it sounds to a classical (yes, classical) when I plugged into a Mod 50. I bleeb that any guitar I buy from now on (EBMM of course) will be piezo equipped though I will own a couple of acoustics. If you want the acoustic feel and sound, what better way than to actually play an acoustic.

From my (quite limited) experince of trying an electro acoustic, I'd say that the EBMM piezo does a great job with lead lines (think of the solo in 'Come up and see me' or 'Wish you were here') but is edged out on strummed chords.

To be honest though, for ease of use live, I'd go with my EBMM any day (unless it was a full on acoustic show).

I love the piezo as well, but it's never going to sound like a "real" acoustic, just because of the way it works. It sounds great, though.

I kinda have, All my EBMM have piezo on them it just makes them that more versatile.
EBMM doesn't quite like an acoustic electric, but then again that depends on which acoustic electric you are comparing it to.

No it doesn't sound like a Taylor IMHO, but it still sounds great.

When I was my last band all we did was covers one of them was Taking My Time, by Boston and it so great to be able to switch back and forth without having to go between two guitars. I use to run the Piezo through a G Major and with a little eq it sounded great. I have some recordings of it and I always get asked, Who was playing the acoustic"

I wish more companies offered this as an option, I asked the manufacturer of the other guitars that I play and they said that they would only do it on their Hollow, and Semi hollow bodies because they could not find a system that could sound good in a solid body, I almost wanted to reply "Well EBMM did, maybe you should give them a call", but I held off.

Anyway sorry for the long answer, I don't know if I even answered your question but for what they charge for the upgrade I think it is definitely worth it.

My system was a little less complicated...a Boss Acoustic Simulator. Again not to be confused with a pre-war Martin, but my Silhouette sounded suitably acoustic. At the time I was playing in a duo through a Boss GT5 (with the AS in it) through a PA, so as
not to deafen the girl singer with an onstage amp. Have also tries a stand-alone AS through a Peavey Classic....again a perfectly acceptable simulation of an acoustic sound in a band setting.

The EB Piezo sounds stunning through an acoustic amp and other knuckleheads have raved about the results they get when using DI into a PA.

It will give a creditable result live and recording but will never be 100% like a Martin or a Taylor.

If you are in a quandary about getting one I'd say go for it otherwise you may end up regretting it.

And the average punter would not know the difference anyhow! I played a big festival to 1000's of people with my EVH into a Boss acoustic pedal into the PA, and it sounded great!
