Saw this on another forum I frequent and thought some of you would enjoy this news:

Roman Guitars Closing
(Port Washington, NY - June 14, 2007) Las Vegas-based Ed Roman Guitars, known as “The World’s Largest Guitar Store,” began liquidating its assets on June 13. This comes six months after Roman sold the business to a company operating area car dealerships. According to Roman, nine employees were let go in May, followed by 13 more on June 13. Roman believes a car dealership will replace his store, due to the potential for more profits.
“I want everyone to know I’ll be back and everything will be made whole,” said Roman. “I am in the process of buying my name back. I didn’t sign any non-compete clause, so I hope to reopen a store, although it won’t be as large as my last one.”

That doesn't seem very surprising. With his outrageous prices on stuff, and numerous people that have dealt with him saying he's one of the biggest ripoffs out there, no wonder they shut down shop. People saying that he's a ripoff reminds me of something I saw in 7th grade. My old social studies teacher had a picture on the wall of Nixon and it said "Would you buy a used car from this man?". I always thought that was classic.

We used to say that Nixon was going to open a used car dealership.

I think Roman's pricing was just a minor contributor to the downfall of his business, having read some of his online "rants", and having experienced his version of "customer service" first hand.

Oh man, the "rants" were unbelieveable. I can't believe that someone would wanna do business with such as ***hole like that guy. When I still played guitar, I remember seeing a rant on there about American guitars and Japanese guitars, mainly I think it was between Jackson, and ESP, but the thing that was really comical about the whole thing is how he was saying that ESP's guitars were crap or whatever, yet he sold them. What a jerk. Thank god that they went out of business. Sure it sucks for the people who worked for him, but they couldn't have given the axe to a bigger prick in my opinion. Just my .02.

I've never really read specific horror stories about Ed Roman, but there's always been tremendous negative vibe about him whenever he was mentioned or when I tried to do a bit of research. So what's the dealio?

I would called that guy a clown, but that would be an insult to the fine hard working clowns of our fine country.

You know the Baker deal was funny. He went to the auction without Gene Baker on his team or Gil. He was determined to out bid me and I just sat there and he got it. In my opinion a big waste of money.

If he ever gets caught on record saying anything about us after being caught red handed counterfitting a signed agreement kicks in with very serious damages personally.

He was really surprised after ripping us off and bad mouthing us that when I caught him counterfitting I immediately sued him...no warning and Wonderdog did a fine job.
MOst of the time you get a warning and get to stop without problems but I fired on the gentleman.

BP, by counterfitting, do you mean he was making versions of EB's instruments? I saw a while back a pic of a Petrucci, its actually still on his site, but the bridge doesn't look anything like the bridge thats on the JP model, it looks like a wilkinson trem or something of that sort, and I also remember a while back, he was selling some JP models on ebay part by part which really pissed me off. I'm surprised that people would even bid on that stuff part for part. I know I wouldn't.

Being a limey, I have no prior knowledge of this gentleman. However, from these posts am I correct in deducing that, some of you chaps don't like him, and the fellow is a bit of a rogue?
