Or maybe he really wanted to see how it would sound having an HH Bongo with the pickups in a different position relative to the bridge - without mangling the original body. It's hard to tell whether the pickup position on that J body puts the bridge pickup in the MM Sweet Spot or not or where it puts the neck pickup. For sure it would sound different than the regular Bongo.

OTOH, maybe he just wanted the electronics in a more traditional body shape. But, in the process he's completely changed the whole design and sound of it. That reminds me of guys who take a perfectly good sports car and then put shortened springs on it to make it look sportier. They completely wreck the ride and handling of the car for the sake of appearance.

Anyway...he's a bit delusional on the price I think.

It's a common delusion. Some handy dude spends 1800 dollars on a Warmoth body custom finished by Wilkins, aftermarket pickups, etc etc, which is fine if what you're building is what you really want. And you expect to keep it forever.

But don't try to recoup your investment. It's forever a parts bass. Figure 500 bucks if the market's doing well.

Here is another bass someone thought they would make better, it showed up on the local cl. It was done to play the higher notes easier or so he said. Price is also delusional. EB/MM Stingray 5 Bass

Cant see the point of the "Bongogate".. weight? Sound? He must've had som bad mushrooms. ..and why do that to a SR5? If you need access to the high end buy a 24 fret neck...

i think you guys nuts... that bass is simply marvelous, and (if used properly) could perhaps be one of the most powerful instruments on the planet. this truly inspired masterpiece, along with the mortally wounded Bongo cadaver who was involuntarily stripped of her spirit along with her premium mommy parts, should both be annexed by the american people citing some trumped up eminent domain laws. we have opportunity to make triumph out of tragedy by putting this dynamic duo to their true, full, potential. the transplant victim, and the donor victim, should be confiscated, then ceremoniously sent on national tour, escorted by our most elite team of heavily armed sharp shooters, and a publicly elected guitar tech / spokesperson to traverse our great nation, going non-stop from town to town, spending one week per year on display at every elementary school in our country. every single child who ever lays eyes on this exhibit will be instantly transformed and have a complete and total understanding of how congress functions... and why.

I emailed him a while back and asked if he would take 200 for the body and neck. He said yes. Could be a cool project for someone at that price.
