I'm no guitarist but I do like to stomp on my DOD envelope filter occaissionally as well as my Boss OC-2 octave pedal. I'm not a huge effects user but with the right sound and place, they can be useful colours.
I've used a pedal with passive basses - when doing my own recordings - for sound-shaping and amp modeling - not distortion, tho the pedal does that. However, my active bass produces satisfactory sound without the pedal.
I play in a cover band that plays all sorts of stuff from the past 40 years, so I do need various effects - chorus, overdrive, synth, touch wah, phaser and flanger. I use a Boss GT-6B, having previously gone down the individual pedal route. The GT-6B has more effects than I'll ever need, plus it has a tuner, pre amp, compressor, amp and cabinet simulators, for around the cost of 3 or 4 individual pedals. It does the job for the cover band scenario, plus I've used it direct when recording.
For "general" jam/blues playing I don't worry about any effects.
I really don't effects much, but the little I do use them, I get them from my Digitech BP200. It's a nice pedal, affordable, doesn't make noise, has a chromatic tuner in it and can also be used a a volume pedal (the two features I use it for mostly).
Non effects pedals: I have a SansAmp BDDI that I find to be the greatest piece of pedal type equipment that I have ever purchased.
i use a Dunlop Auto Q bass, a Dunlop Q Cry Baby bass, and a Bass balls....all are awsome except the constuction of the bass balls isnt to strong and many parts of it starting falling off of it withen the first week of use, and i kept good care of it... Also i noticed the bassballs didnt sound as good on my active music man as it did on my passiv Fender Jazz
I've got a Snarling Dogs Bass wah if anyone is interested in it. I really never use it at all and don't see myself using it in the future. I'ts literally "right out of the box". I'll send you pics if you're interested.....
you all have been taken into consideration
but i ended up buying a ibanez
phat-hed
i would recomend it to anyone.
its got great tone range and good for punk/metal/ funk/rock/fun
Phine then , Jubby, see iph I pheel like phielding any more ephects questions or telling what my phavourite phoot pedals are..... go have phun with your phat hed!
good luck with the Ibanez, Feildy (Phieldy) uses one right?
Phat heds are a good choice if ya don't wanna spill the jack for a Fulltone Bass Overdrive. I have both the Fulltone and a SansAmp BDDI, they really don't do the same thing at all so it's nice to have both. I'd love to buy a modded TS-9 as well, Keeley or Modman. I had a stock TS-9 that got borrowed by a guitarist and conveniently never returned. That stinks. . .I've tried a few other multi-pedals, the only thing multi I have now that I think kicks butt is the Korg Toneworks Pandora's Box PX4B.
Do you think the Korg you have is an end-all-have-all for effects? I'm seriously looking into effects, stomp boxes, etc. but am extremely bogged down due to limited budget.

The Pandora's Box? Mmmmm. ... .no, definitely not a end-all-have-all. It's great for what it is, a practice setup with a mess of presets that could be valuable for doing a demo recording on your computer, that kind of thing. I don't see it as stage gear. I think it could fill that gap for a while, but no. I'd prefer a few pedals for stage work.
