Egnater COD Blues clip No. 1

Start Player

I'm inthe process of doing some clips for Egnater/DiMarzio and I'll post the ones here that are on my Ernie Ball - which will be most of them! This one's a nice traditional blues over a Ted Green type progression. The lead guitar is my Ernie Ball Steve Morse model into the Egnater Mod 50 COD preamp with everything pretty much at 12:00. The bright and bass boosts are on the lower of the two settings. There is a boatload of gain to go, and I’m not really digging into the pickups too hard either, just trying to get that even Robben Ford sort of fusion tone without pedals. The melodic line in first 12 bars has both humbuckers, but I switch it to just the bridge for the solo. For those unfamiliar with the Steve Morse model, it’s DiMarzio’s are really mellow with a full midrange. The rhythm guitar is a Gretsch 6120 into the Egnater Twin channel of the Twin/Deluxe preamp.

The 12 bar progression moves in and out of Cm to Am, Dm, Em and Bb minor. When I can get a bass on the backing track, I’ll post it for anyone who wants to jam on it.

Thank you!
the playing and the sound is fantastic as every time.
I´m amazed by the sounds of this clip and the last ones you've posted. If I would here it without explanation, I think I would not guess, that it´s a Steve Morse Model which is played. This speaks for the versatility of the guitar and for the fact, that your fingers can dig every tone you want out of it!

Thanks guys, I'm really glad you like it because this is the preamp module I've been dreaming off for a long time. I'm too cheap to go buy and amp that just nails this family of tones only, so I'm really excited Egnater made this one. The wait was killing me. Glad your are digging it too Roburdo!

Banjoplayer,

Yes, the guitar is the Steve Morse for the leads. The rhythm is a Gretsch. The EBMM Morse is really great for a variety of things. Like the Egnater amps, it is not just good, but outstanding at a variety of things. The EBMM Morse will not get you a classic strat tone though. It's more on the Tele side of the equation. Even it has limitations.

Thanks for sharing. I'm still getting new sounds out of my Morse. I think I love them all!

i put a lollar blonde in the slanted single coil position.......it really helped ALOT for that hendrix/srv neck sound.
also put a mini switch for splitting the bridge hummer. that really does a nice job when used w/ the rear single coil for the sweet home alabama tone. & the bridge hummer split by itself is VERY bridge tele like.

also.....i think bruce may have built one of the later guytron amps a have.

Neat- which blonde did you use? Neck or middle (RW)?

Very Nice!

I'd never heard of Egnater until now.

Foggy, if you're ever in the mood to check out an Egnater amp, they're just across the river here in the Detroit area in Berkley, Michigan. The stuff is killer. They're there in the shop every weekday. If you want to stop in on a Saturday, just give them a call and make an appointment.

I used to be a diehard Mesa fan until I found Egnater. Still love Mesa, but I'm much more likely to buy an Egnater than a Mesa for my next amp.

Thanks for checking it out guys.

One additional thing I should add about these COD clips is that I had the MOD 50 head and cabs in the control room with me, so the volume was really tame as I'm really learning the sound of these new amps (and trying to be good to my hearing...duh, what?) This is a type of tone that really comes to its full glassy glory at higher volumes. Also, there is a lead channel with more distortion I haven't recorded yet. I am so pleased with how the EB MM Morse handles this thing. The guitar and pus have a very versatile and elegant character that lends itself to these tones.

Hey Tommy, that's funny about the Guytone. Perhaps.

Roburado,

Three words:

Just do it! :)

I have pretty much decided that an Egnater will be my next amp. I've got to wait a while until I can actually afford it.

John, you're so right about these amps really coming to life after you turn them up a bit. Sure, they sound great a lower volumes, but they're really something fantastic when you turn them up a little. You just have no idea how much better they sound until you actually turn them up.

Frank LaMara was showing me and my buddy the Mod 50 one day. I brought my 20th Ann. Silo. My friend brought his JP6 and his Morse on separate occasions. Man, sweet stuff. All of the EBMMs we tried were fantastic through the Mod 50. My buddy's going to buy something from them within the next 3 months, I think. He was thinking about the Mod 50. Now, he's talking about a Mod 100 or M4 preamp. :D One of these days, I'm going to take their amp building class. :D

Cool, if I lived that close to the Amp Lounge, they'd never get me out of there! As far as turning up the Egnater MOD 50 is concerned, it is so cool how it runs with either EL 34s or 5881 power tubes. I have been enjoying how nicely each tube type works with the traditional families of sounds normally associated with EL34s and 6L6s. I have two of the heads (one with EL 34s and on with 5881s) and have been having a great time A/B-ing the modules between them.
