Hey guys..

just wondering if anyone has tried the EMG X series pickups yet..??

I have been thinking about installing some in my Luke... I suppose what I really need to know is how they differ from the standard pickups in a Luke.
I really need a more organic natural tone and I don't want to put another brand of pickup in the guitar because that would involve some modification to the guitar... what I'd really like is if the X series had the tonal qualities of a passive pickup with the low noise advantages of EMGs....

The X series is supposed to do exactly what you want it to do. Blend in the organic tone with the classic EMG open/compression. Seems like a teeny bit of an oxymoron to me, but they are worth a look.

Although, before you go swapping them out take a look into the 18volt mod. Which adds a bit more headroom and dynamics to the pickup. Then again, there may be complications trying that mod on a Luke.

And if Actives fail you in the end, the passive world of DiMarzio beckons...

thanks Andrew,

I am not a high gain player and I don't really like DiMarzios... I like older smokey woodier tones and would love to get these with my Luke... why play a Luke if thats the case you may ask..??... well my luke is very nicely played in and I'm just very comfortable with it... its a great player but the tone was never quite right for me... so the X series may be my best option.

You may want to take a look at Seymour Duncan active pickup offerings. I'm not sure if they have the same quick connect system though.

If you dogo down this route, I'd be interested to hear the outcome. Have been looking into the same solution myself.
