That is so awesome Morbid! I remember posting in this gem of a thread all those years ago! It's so awesome to see that JP rising from the ashes and melting faces again!

Can't wait for Mr. Petrucci himself to put his John Hancock on the HS. A true resto project!

Fantastic new pics.

This one was a great project thread, the new pics are very welcome!

Great gear too.

The signature would indeed be a perfect, and very fitting, addition to the headstock.

Sad sad news folks. Just got off the phone with Express Music in Seminole, FL. Unfortunately, they've sided against doing any more Petrucci clinics. I'm crushed!!
I've only been fortunate enough to go to two of the clinics, and I was really looking forward to some more. They were always really enjoyable, and a really great opportunity for me to get to talk to the man himself, even if only for a minute or two. But alas, there's nothing I can do. Unfortunately, that means I'm not able to get my guitar signed either.

Even still, the clinics granted me the ability to meet my idol on two separate occasions, and that's still a pretty big deal to me.

So the story ends here for now. Since I can't at the moment justify the cost of a VIP ticket to one of the shows, I'm just gonna have to hope another opportunity arises in the future. BUMMER!

Where is the dislike button if you need one :(

JP is not on the forum here, is he?! I'll keep my fingers crossed for some occasion to arise, Jordan... someday you'll complete your work :)

Goodness. I haven't seen this thread in a LONG time! Just took a quick stroll down memory lane by browsing through the thread real quick.

I think I need someone else to use and abuse another JP6(and then sell it to me cheap) so I can do this project again! Any takers? :D

Morbid, just read this entire thread, dunno why for some oddball reason I wanted to browse Musicman guitars on e-bay and i ended up here, maybe I googled "musicman necks"? as I am considering an upgraded neck on an AX20 Rockstar Sterling I stole from a pawnshop in Las Vegas, well I gave em a $59 bucks it just feels like I stole it when I play it, damnest thing, they just wanted it gone!... hehe

anywho WOW, what a project and boy did it come out sharp!

I would like to add that if you can find a wood shop in your area that has staged large diameter cotton buffing wheels they will let you borrow it would behoove you to take it apart again, tape up the board and wheel polish the body and head stock with large wheels and the proper grit compounds in 3-4 stages you will be able to see yourself from afar.

I am of the opinion that your finish isn't nearly as bright as it can be and judging by the painters shop I highly doubt he used a wheel buffer on it, no doubt suitable for play but if you wanna get it dead nut so you can see its reflection from space see if you can come up with something like this guy has and go to work on it...

BTW, very nice work, do you have a video of some audio of it?

Hey Daan,

Thanks for the kind words, and congrats on what was DEFINITELY a steal of a purchase, ya damn thief! lol

As far as the reflection/gloss of the guitar, the pictures are rather deceiving. When taking pictures of my instruments, I intentionally try to use subdued and off angle lighting to avoid too much reflection. Otherwise you end up with lens flare and just overall less attractive pictures.
I actually had the guitar apart the other week (a string broke, so I figured I'd do a deep cleanse), and polished the frets and body real nicely. I should have taken some pictures before I got my grubby mitts on it again, haha.
Unfortunately, the guitar has since sustained a small paint chip on the lower horn, so I have to be careful when polishing that area. I'll be getting in touch with the guy who painted the guitar in the not too distant future though, to see if he has enough of the paint left over to touch up that area.

As far as video or audio, nothing newer of any quality I'm afraid. I'm currently in the process of a move, so I haven't even been able to play as much as I'd like.
The only decent clip I have is an old and sketchy one I did of the opening Count of Tuscany solo as a tonal test: http://www.thehybrid.net/Morbid/Tuscany.mp3 - Please excuse the slop.

Once I get settled into the new place, I intend on making some more YouTube videos, and I'll make it a point to use the EBMM and to post it here :)

Haha - I just re-read the whole thing too.
It was a great thread and the guitar turned out great.
I'm trying to remember what my deleted posts said.
I was obviously giving Jim a serve again for some reason :D :D :D

I'd be more than happy to do another bigger and better thread if anyone wants to sell me a beat up Petrucci on the cheap? Haha

Good to see ya again, Dizzy!
