This is VERY tempting to come out and hang, learn lots and meet plenty of EB players. Going to seriously consider this.... :)

Am I missing a thread somewhere? Where can I get the details as to who is going to be there and what events are planned? I think I read that we would have some travel details soon too - hotels, etc. Any updates?

This is fantastic news.

I am SERIOUSLY considering flying in from the UK for the event.

1. Are we sure its that date and not going to change before I book flights.
2. Can I get hotels OK?
3. Is it best to fly to LA or San Fran?
4. Can I buy a Mr Horsepower whilst I'm there?

I hope this all works out because I'd love to meet you guys and see where my "babies" came from!

S.L.O. has it's own airport, I've been searching for decent prices on tix to fly in there.

Also, I believe that EB is trying to set up some packages with the area hotels. :)

I'm not buying my plane tix just yet, not sure how long I will stay in Cali - Might make it more than a weekend and see some sights!

I think LA and SFO are just about the same distance ... lets see ... (off to yahoo maps)

here's the distances from "nearby" airpots that i can think of:

1 - san francisco airport (SFO) -> San Luis Obispo: 218 miles
2 - san jose airport (SJC) -> San Luis Obispo: 187 miles
3 - Los angeles airport (LAX) -> San Luis Obispo: 202 miles
4 - Burbank airport (BUR) -> San Luis Obispo: 202 miles

so looks like landing at the San Jose airport gets you shortest drive. but like people have said: San Luis has a small airport, but i dunno how easy it is to get flights into there. You could also fly to a big airport and connect to San Luis.

see ya there :)

San Luis Obispo airport is code SBP if that helps anyone get a shorter drive. I was getting tix priced in the $440 - $523 range round trip flying out of BDL (Bradly Int'l CT) and into SLO, then back again, 1 or 2 layovers. Most of these flights are going through LAX.

Tix to LAX are around $300 for me, then a car rental and 3 hour drive, might still be cheaper than $500/tick idunno, car rental would cost extra since I turn 25 in Nov.

From my initial key-tapping, it seems that you can readily fly into SLO from Phoenix, Las Vegas, or San Francisco. I mention this as a help for those travelling from afar and booking their own flights.

the drive is really smell-a for the first hour and 15 minutes, then it is really a pretty great ride through ventura montecito santa barbara and then through the region made famous in the movie Sideways. SLo is a really nice quiant semi trendy college town in the middle of the central coast wine region.

Right now we are working on packages for accommodations. We are reserving room blocks at hotels in San Luis Obispo so that you all get good room rates. I will have EXACT prices for you by tomorrow or Friday.

If you have any questions regarding the event I would be MORE than happy to answer. It's going to be a REALLY FUN TIME!
:D

So looking forward to it.
Any hotel info yet?

So, would you suggest driving down from San Jose or driving up from LA? Right now I have a flight on hold for San Jose but my wife and I are big fans of the movie Sideways. What kind of time should I allow for the drive.

if you are a fan of sideways take the 101 north. you can tke the 154v which is the san marcos pass...takes you by Neverland.....or stay on the 101 The resturant featured in Sideways is the Hitching Post. It was pretty famous before sideways but is over the top now. They are eally good at the Santa Maria style Bar B Que and make a very good Pinot Noir. Time your break and have a steak!

If you decide San Jose, leave way more time for the drive. Not because the distance is so much different, but rather the coastline between monterey and SLO is so dramatic it just forces you to pull off the road and Gawk, walk, talk and fock.

my 2cents.

you are correct I should let them know about cutting over to monterey and then taking route 1 down through big sur and cambria into slo. It is the most beautiful drive there is but is pretty slow.
