Hi guys I'm Junior from Croatia. I'm 14 and I've been playing for almost 3 years and "I'm lovin' it" My biggest influences are Steve Morse, John Petrucci, Ritchie Blackmore etc.

I'm a huge fan of the EBMM Steve Morse and especially the new SM Y2D. Since I doubt I'll ever have the kind of money to spend on the Y2D in the next 10 years or so :D (considering I still attend elementary school and I don't have a job etc.), I'm really interested in the SUB1 guitar. I've seen it in our local music store and I love it - the HH with vintage style EBMM tremolo, white with matte black pickguard. It's pretty much all that I want. It has a vintage style tremolo, HH pickup configuration, locking tuners and the classic Silhouette-like / Steve morse EBMM body shape. Even if I would do a custom made it would be the SM Y2D with dual humbuckers. It is made in California, and the guy said that the lower price is pretty much because of the lower class pickups, finish and wood, and that he would sell it to me for 770$ NEW (nothing weird 'cause prices around here are a lot higher)

On this forum I haven't heard nothing but good words about this one, and I know there are dozens of threads about the SUB1, so I'm sorry for making another. Delete if necesarry.

As I've already said, I've been playing for three years and I'm quite good for that amount of time, and I'm searching for a guitar that would have a good clean and a good heavy rhythm / soling sound. I mostly play hard rock - Deep Purple, Richie Sambora etc., but sometimes I also like to rock some Dream Theater. :D

Do you think that the SUB1 would be a the right choice for me?

I don't exactly have the money now. I have 20% guaranteed (from my mom :D) and the rest is yet to come.

BTW Why can't we say other brand's names on these forums? (f*nder etc.)

Junior,

Buy that SUB1 with confidence. I played one of those babies at a local store, through a marshall jcm2000 DSL, and it sounded great clean and distorted.

I think the pickups sound fantastic. The SUB1 should cover all of your bases.

There's no rule about posting other brand names here (at least, not that I'm aware of) but we tend to do this ("Ib@nez", etc.) for two reasons:

1) out of respect for EBMM, who pays for this site and
2) to poke a little good-natured fun at other brands.

Obviously we all own or have owned other brands, but we eventually saw the light. ;)

I play SUB1, and it certainly covers all the bases. It doesn't have brand name pickups, true, but they are not bad at all, neither weak nor overpowering, just right. The finish is different from normal EBMM, but it's very durable.
SUB1's body is made of poplar, same wood as both Steve Morse models, and has a similar shape. My only problem is that the back is flat, but so it is on Morse.
The major difference is in the neck finish - it's painted vs. unfinished necks on other models. Still, the neck feels much better then anything else for the same money I've played.
I'd say buy it when u get the funds. Just beware that most people become addicted to EBMM's very fast....

Yo, yo, yo Raz is in Da HOUSe, what's this, what's all dis chit chatter about SUB 1's and nobody invites me...I am insulted
Get the Sub1 and rock my junior brotha from the land of the mighty Croats, you will not be dissapointed. I, at one point had three, but now I only have two (better for balancing I always say). I modded one into an H-S-S with Bill Lawrence pups and it was crazy sounding, burst every blood vessel in your body, well atleast when I play :D
Save up, sell your soul if you have to, just make sure you buy...OH and stay away from the fog, man...no, sorry what I meant was stay away from the fogman, he's a bad influence. ;)

The SUB is a nice guitar, but only you can decide if it's right for you.

It sounds like you have at least a little while to wait, and a shop that has it in stock, so why don't you go down there and play it a bit? Play some other guitars too while you're at it.

^^ Sorry I forgot to mention. I was in a hurry and my fingers were almost frozen from the wheather outside... :D:D:D I'll do it another time. I'm not sure how many SUB1's there are at the store, but I know that this is exactly the color / pickup / pickguard/ bridge combination that I want, and I don't know if they can get the same one. I hope so.

I have a lot of time 'till I get (if i get) the money so tring it out is not a problem.

I'll take a good practice session at the store LOL and see if it's okay. but I bet it is 'cause I'm playing on a Squier guitar which is basically a *********************************************************************************************************************************************************************** :D:D so anything would feel better.

Keep on coming with the comments :)

I can ;) Well -getting the exact same guitar- is less of a problem than getting the money :D The 20% from my mom that I mentioned... umm... interesting story. Shee agreed to give me 20% of whatever I want as long as I show her the rest 80% first :D So that's kinda hard :)

And even if she gave me the money, I wouldn't give the deposit 'cause I don't have any reliable source of money. I'm too young for a job etc. So it leaves me with saving money for a long time... :(

Well I have a great brother who is really generous when it comes to giving money and I doubt he'd let me buy a guitar without participating in paying :D he gave me 40% of my newest guitar - Ib@nez AEG10E BK :) But he doesn't have a stedy job so... he does web pages and programs when asked :)

I just hope I get it soon :)

Hey! What did I do to get dragged into this one! :D

Junior,

Maybe if you walk around acting depressed your Mom will buy it for Christmas!!!
Hang pictures of it all over you bedroom walls. ;)
I can give you lots of Sub pics but I don't have any of the white ones (yet).

LOL good advices guys... :D I know I'm really stuck on this one, and I probably won't get it in the next year or so, (unless I win the lottery) but I'm still gonna be saving big time... My upcoming purchase is a Marshall VS30R that I need more than the guitar now, 'cause it would be a sin to play the guitar through a Squier SP10 :D. The VS30R is about 100€ used so that's less of a bother...

The Sub is a great choice no matter how long you've been playing. I've been playing for 20 years and am working on getting a Silouette. But if I can't get enough funds up, I will be happy to get a Sub instead.

Tell that to foggy :D
I'd still be playing mine, but since they don't make a seven string version, which they should BTW. This would make them leaders in American made, reasonably priced 7 string guitars. The SUB 7...sounds sweet doesn't it? Well...
