When talking about punk rock bass players, Matt Freeman of Rancid is the first to come to mind. I would say I like Fat Mike from NOFX much better than Freeman because he has more variety and makes use of bass chording much more. It's not the same pentatonic and blues riffs over and over again.

Roger Sixx, I'm pretty sure. And RBF's is Matt Wong.

My votes go to Jaco (I mean COME ON PEOPLE, HE's JACO) and Rog of Less Than Jake. Roger is my hero, period.

Not sure. Lots of chorus effect. Large hollow basses.
Strange approach. Thats all I remember about 'em.

Current fav: Keith Taylor - plays on all Kirk Franklin's stuff. Awesome phat Ken Smith tone and ultra tasteful gospel playing.

groovier - Yeah baby - Flim Johnson!!! I haven't thought about him since college - can you believe that those Flim & The BB's CD's were done 2 track live to digital? Now that takes solid playing!

Pino on Fretless

Tony Levin

John Patittucci (Especially when he played w/ Chick Corea)

McCartney - Especially on Abbey Road

BovineHost - Well I've never heard him play but he sure seems like a swell guy!

But I do thank you.

Some misc clips are on my website. Prepare to be underwhelmed.

Since I've already seen the names of most of my favorites, I'll just post one name I havn't seen and see if anyone's familiar with him.

Lee Gorman from the band Bow Wow Wow. His work on thier rendition of "Fools Rush In" should get him mention alone. Plus he played the only bass I'd rather have than a Sting-Ray - a Wal.

If you've never heard of him, check him out. Don't stop at "I Want Candy" either, most of his best work is before that.

Hey fire..was Muzz Skillings the guy from Living Colour??
ya, he was(and probably still is) amazing. Have never heard of anything he's done since leaving LC. Huge inspiration to my playing for sure. My first exposure to "jazz" concepts growing up in rural Alberta (the Texas of Canada) came from listening to the first two LC discs.
