Athony Jackson because he plays with so much articulation and conviction(just listen to the stuff he plays with Michel Camilio

John Pattitucci- He has a certain type of spirit that you hear in his playing also a great player that has real good articulation
Jeff Berlin-because first/foremost he is a great player, teacher and student of the instrument and most of all he doesn't hesitate to speak his mind
and last but not least a real real good friend of mine who actually taught me on how not only to be a bass player but who also taught me how to be a good musician.......my dad.
DOMINIQUE DI PIAZZA.....!!!!!
100000 steps ahead in bass playing he is really one of the greatest ......!!!!!
.and...GARY WILLIS........we can't forget him......is so massive!!!!!
I'm not suprised everyone is into the classics. But I do enjoy Pnut's new stuff. He's always been a model bassist for me. Even though I mostly play American made basses I still want to learn a 5 because of him. Maybe next time I'm in Europe I'll visit Shuker and have him make me one.
1. Ryan Martini - Mudvayne (amazing)
2. Les Claypool - Primus
3. Stu Hamm - Joe Satriani's band
4. Billy Sheehan - Steve Vai's band
5. John Myung - Dream Theater
6. Steve Harris - Iron Maiden
7. Geddy Lee - Rush
8. Doug Pinnick - King's X
9. Rex Brown - Pantera
10. Victor Wooten
I've seen all of these guys except for Myung, Lee and Wooten. I'd have to say Ryan Martini is the best. Most people havn't heard of him, which is a shame. He's nothing short of a perfect bass player.
You have all named most of the greats but im surprised nobody has mentioned Larry Graham of Sly's band and Graham Central Station or Rocco Prestia of Tower of Power! Both of those guy's are originators for sure.
Guy Berryman - Coldplay
He has a great feel and sensativity to his playing.
Mani - Stone Roses and Primal Scream
King of dirty groovy basslines
Alex James - Blur
Has writen some classic bass lines and has bags of attitude
Martin Blunt - The Charlatans
Groove, swagger and a stingray
Andy Rourke - The Smiths
Top bass player, totaly integral to what the smiths sound.
very clever and deserves a mention because Morrisy and Marr

The court case was won by Andy.
J J Burnel - The Stranglers
Even if its just for peaches, though he did many better.
Jah Wobble - PIL and solo
mmmm dubby
David J - Bauhaus , Love and Rockets
Great Fretless player, dark and jazzy, very atmospheric
John Entwistle - The Who
Can't belive no one has mentioned him yet?
the guy was a bass god, anyone who could keep up with
Keith Moon and keep him structured.
You just have to watch cover bands struggle with the bass break in my generation to see how great he was.
