Hi,

What is the difference between Axis and EVH Axis?

How do I know if a guitar is just regular Axis or EVH Axis?

Thanks

Well, the EVH and the Axis are essentially identical guitars. The guitar started out life as the EVH and the name was simply changed to Axis when you-know-who had a brain fart and downgraded to Peavey.

Along with the new name came a few minor changes:

1) The toggle switch was moved to right below the volume knob
2) A belly contour was added and
3) The neck was widened slightly at the heel, to remedy the high E's tendency to slide off the edge of the fretboard.

Cheers

P.s.: A fun fact: The original name of the Albert Lee signature was actually "Axis"...

Not to mention the small point that an Axis has a big AXIS on the Headstock, and an EVH has Eddies Signature.... ;)

and that is the main reason why it is so ridiculously (sp?) priced ;)

I personally don't think they are over/ridiculously priced. How much is a Gibson LP in your area? What about PRS? I've never seen a Fender with a birdseye neck or flame top like what you get on MM. And if you did it would cost you a lot more. You pay for what you get...quality

But that $2000 buys you the wrong word written on the volume knob don't forget...

Well, the prices I've seen for EVH guitars lately have been silly:

You can get one used, dinged EVH with worn frets for the price of two brand spanking new Axii (that's the original vs. new and improved)... IMHO you have to be either a collector or clinically insane to spring for an EVH over the Axis at those prices!

that was my point. MM really has the right idea, they open a run of LE's and anniversary models for 12 months and then they become highly sort after in many cases...

Waste of money to over pay on a guitar that you can buy brand new without all the wear, yea if you collect and it has the EVH on it cool, but if you play why?

Those old EVH's do have a very sweet sound though...I'm not imagining it when I say they sound a little different to an Axis. Anyone else agree who has both?

It has the identical construction (same wood, p'ups, bridge etc.), so I can't imagine why it would sound different. But hey, if you love it 'cause it's got mojo there's nothing wrong with that.

Not to mention, buying EVHs does nothing for Musicman, the company. Buy an Axis and keep a great company going.
