Congrats! on the EVH and i think that the 1700 is far better than the 10k for the pink one that keeps popping up on ebay! LOL!!!

yeah the EVHs tend to go for a bit more or close to the same price as a new AXIS but in my opinion the EVH could fetch more in the long run as time goes on... but it's meant to be played so have fun and welcome to the family.

Thanks! Is there a difference between the Axis and the EVH?

check the faq on the website it used to be explained there:

"When Eddie left Ernie Ball/Music Man in 1995, the decision was made to keep the guitar in production pretty much the same as when it was the Eddie Van Halen guitar. All of the design, including the neck, pickups, and woods used are the same, but we made a few improvements:
1. The neck was widened slightly (1/32") at the body end. This was to correct problems for players who were having trouble with the high E string slipping off the neck on the 12th fret and up.

2. The switch was moved near the volume knob. This was done to help prevent accidental hitting of the switch, especially while strumming.

3. The "tone" knob was replaced by a volume knob (NOTE: it was always a volume pot - the "tone" knob was a sort of joke).

4. We added a comfort contour (a belly cut) to the top and back of the body."

Are these evh guitars similar to the evh guitars eddie actually used? Neck, body, pup, etc.

the cool thing about EBMM is we get exactly what the pros use... which is really awesome. so if by chance Luke, Al, Petrucci, Morse... were asked to do a gig and they didn't have one of their guitars with them they could go into a shop that had their sig model and they wouldn't notice anything different... everything EBMM does on sig models is what we get as average joes... WHICH IS REALLY AWESOME!!!

a lot of companies do "signature" models but they're not identical in every aspect- they have similarities but they are not identical to the "T"

so yes!!! your EVH is EXACTLY what evh played when he has this signature model...

yeah... EBMM does a great job at making sure we get what the artist use...

the one and only difference is if it's a one off/prototype they're working on that hasn't been released yet... but that's fully understandable... and by one off's were talking color options...

It was either this EBMM EVH for 1700 or a 1988 Kramer Nightswan for 1100, 1989 Ibanez Jem RB for 1400, 2005 Wayne Rock legend for 1400 or 2004 Peavey Wolfgang Standard for 1300!! I think i made the right choice getting the EBMM EVH!!

Yeah... i've played most of those; however, not the actual EVH but an AXIS and out of the group i would have been right there with you on the EVH and the color is awesome too... and honestly how can you go wrong with a EBMM... (psst... you'll be looking for another here shortly)

Hey, I was able to take a closer look at the photos of the EVH you got, and wanted to let you know something. Don't freak out, it's not a tragedy or anything. When you said the neck pickup had been reversed, it made me take a closer look at the pickups. The bridge pickup on your EVH is not an EBMM/EVH pickup. It is very likely out of a Wolfgang. You can tell by the little square hole on each bobbin near the top edge of the pickup. The EBMM/EVH pickups did not have these square holes, but the Peavey Wolfgangs did.

The bad news is, you will probably have a really hard time finding an original EBMM/EVH bridge pickup. The good news is that the Axis pickups are the same pickup, except for an extra set of leads for coil tapping, and they come up on ebay from time to time. You can't just order a new Axis pickup without sending one in.

Hopefully, the seller was honest with you about the pickups, and didn't claim that they were original. If he was dishonest, I would demand a refund of my money.

The guitar still looks to be mechanically in good shape, and is worth keeping, even with the off-spec pickup.

Sorry I didn't catch that sooner.

The Wolfgang pickups are similar, but sound dirtier and less articulate to me. I'd keep my eye out for an Axis Pickup on ebay. Still worth the price you paid, and I'm glad the guy was honest about it.
