Hi There,
I have recently acquired a faded trans purple EVH ,but have noticed that the way in which the edges of the neck have been 'rolled' or 'finished' , is different to the amber one I already have. The amber one feels 'sharper', and the purple one feels 'rounded', both feel great, but different. Has anyone experienced this? I thought that all the necks were digitally carved to Eddie's 5150 Kramer specs, hence were all the same. Maybe the necks are all individually hand sanded? allowing for a slight variation, can anyone confirm this or otherwise. I am totally happy with both guitars but fail to see how they can feel so different when Eddie noticed a difference of 1/32th of an inch between the final prototype neck and the production neck! Any ideas?

The sides of the EVH and Axis necks are smoothed out and rounded. This is done by hand with a razor blade. It is possible that one may not have been rounded out as much and may feel slightly sharper. Since 1991 the necks have all been produced the same way. The original neck carve was takin from Eddie's original guitar. The necks are cut by machine and then sanded , crowned, oil and waxed by hand.

Thanks

Derek

FWIW, my two EVH necks are very different. One is very symetrically rounded and the other is very thick on the bass side and thin on the treble side. Kinda gives them each a distinct personality.
