Okay, here's my take on this.

I see this alot on Ebay. People calling the Axis an Axis EVH, or a Van Halen Axis. Their intentions are to draw the attention of people looking for a Van Halen guitar, although technically that is not what it is. Some people would call this deceptive advertising, but I would disagree.

First of all, if they are not actually trying to charge the price of the collectible EVH model, and they put the word Axis in the ad, it is not deceptive.

Secondly, anybody that is going to buy something that expensive should educate themselves on the product before they buy it.

Lastly, I don't think there is anything wrong with callling an Axis an EVH guitar. Eddie Van Halen designed the guitar shape, and pickup configuration and design. This guitar type did not exist until Eddie and Ernie Ball put it together. There were minor changes to the design when EVH left EBMM, but overall, the guitar is the same. If somone had an original 1984 Kramer Baretta with a Floyd Rose, Maple neck, and hockey stick headstock on E-bay, they would also refer to it as an EVH guitar.
I would say that it is more truthful to call an Axis an EVH guitar than the Kramer, or a Wolfgang for that matter.

Just tying EVH to it to get you to look, and hopefully bid.
Yep... Just an Axis...

Don't forget that the EVH has the different switch placement as well...

LOL. You had me until that last comment... Axis is a close variation of a guitar he designed and once used. Wolfgang is a guitar he designed and currently uses. If you can call an Axis an EVH guitar, certainly it's at least as appropriate to call a Wolfgang an EVH guitar.

I've seen eBayers use this technique many times. They do it so EVH-heads (or whoever) doing searches with the right key words will bring up their product. Some of them get pretty obscure but as long as it's just in the heading for the product it's not that big of a deal. The close look I gave to this ad for the Axis didn't make me think it was out of line.

The funniest ones to me are the old ads for 5150 red and white striped EVH style guitars. People would paint them up and then call them a replica. I wonder how many people bought these guitars just because of the paint job and thought they were getting somthing even similar to EVH's guitar.

Sure, the Wolfgang is an EVH guitar. It, after all, has his name on it. I'm just one of "those guys" that subscribes to the belief that the EBMM/EVH is only "Real" EVH guitar. It was the original design that he worked on when his heart was into it, when his primary concern was making a quality instrument that he could play, and offer the exact same quality to others that wanted his guitar.

In retrospect, and this is only my opinion, the Wolfgang is a guitar that he developed with Peavey in order to maximize his profit on an EVH guitar design.

Yes, technically the Wolfgang is an EVH guitar, and the Axis is not, but I choose to live in my own little reality where the Axis is closer to an EVH guitar than a Wolfgang. No big deal. Just my opinion.

You seem to make a lot of assumptions in order to get to your conclusion but I do agree. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
