Just a note to say that the factory service exceeded my wildest dreams!
My SR5 was acting weird, locals couldn't get it right, I bought a stupid friggin' IBANEZ for a back-up bass

, blah, blah, blah...
I finally decided to ship it out. (My company has a loading dock, UPS shipper number and gets deliveries 3 times a day, so it was a no-brainer, fortunate, as I have no brain!)
My bass arrived, and I got a call for CC info for the repair and return shipping in a few hours.
Fixed and shipped the SAME DAY!! Try THAT with yer local yokel!!
In addition to fixing my bass, they polished it, set it up to factory specs, and included some nice Wonder Wipes, all at NO COST!!
(We supply EB with secret stuff sometimes, but I don't think that I got special treatment. They really love and respect ALL of their customers.)
So if you are wondering if you should send it to San Luis Obispo for repair, DO IT!!!
Whatever the shipping cost, it is worth it. The factory will fix it faster than anyone can, and they don't charge a lot per hour anyway. They are the people who BUILT it, so they are the EXPERTS! Let them repair it, and you will be glad!!
Now I gotta unload the Ibanez and save up for a new EB.
Sterling first, or Bongo? Hmmm...
