fave amp(s) for use with Axis?

Hi Again,

First, thanks for all the info about Axis hardtails. This is a really great, helpful bunch of people.

Anyway, since last post I have become a proud owner of my very own Axis! The purchase is part of a general gear upgrade. I've always played semi-junk at home (Silvertone thru a Supro, etc) and loaners for shows (always Gibson/Fender thru some kind of tube head with a 4x12 cab).

After 20 years playing out I'm ready to get my first GOOD amp--you know, something comparable to an EBMM guitar.

I know I want some kind of 2x_ tube combo. We're about always mic'd onstage, so 30-50 watts'll probably do it (and might lead to a Volume Wars armistice...)

Tonewise, I don't need the metal; I guess it's more like I need, um, "glowing dirt." "molten scuzz" perhaps...

But enough about that...What do you fine folks suggest?

I play my Axis through Mesa 2 :90 power amp plus Rocktron Prophesy preamp.
Sounds pretty cool

Despite my personal preferences (anything from the Z collection), I would suggest maybe Mesa Boogie - either a Dual Rectifier or the Lone Star, or some of the Hiwatt or Marshall products.

p.s. I did read that you want 30-50 watts and 2x__ tubes ... still think MB would be good, but then again, so would Maz Senior 38 NR with a nice 2x12 or 4x12 cab.

I use a Peavey Classic 30 which sounds great, but am thinking of one of the new Mesa Boogie Express combos

I use a Rocktron Prophesy/ Carvin TS100 into a 5150 bottom cabinet. My rig sure doesn't sound like what you're looking for though. If I were looking for a 2x12 combo and didn't need a metal tone, I'd seriously consider a Peavey Classic or Carvin Belair.

Check out a Line 6, though the new Marshall 4 Channel Job looks pretty sweet. 2 x 12" and switchable Master Volumes.

I use a Line6 Flextone III XL - 2X12 combo - and my EBMMs all sound great through it!
