I think it is not you or Pete here to blame :p , my opinion is that this aspects are particular to this strings.
most of the people I talk with have this complaint "EB are good strings, good tone, but they become black very fast and loose tone".
I do not sweat a lot (I don't wanna say at all because that contradicts medicine :D) but is the same and the same with every new EB set .....
I have ordered 12 sets of EB coated from US, let's see those, if not ok, than I will come back to Elixir that are excellent strings (haven't heard yet any complaints at all about them)

I have the same issue with the strings turning black very fast. I wish I had received a different super power other than "string corroding sweat".

I don't agree with that complaint at all. People are picky about their strings, I've heard the same comment about longevity applied to just about every brand at one point.

The coated strings are excellent. Find I'm really liking them and they definitely last longer.

Under my fingers it doesn't matter what brand they are, they still turn black.

You do know that the plain steel strings in the Elixir pack have no coating, right? The coated EB strings are ALL coated!

In my 20+ years of playing I've had this happen with every type of string I've used, GHS, Blue Steel, Elixir, D'Addario, etc. I hadn't even used EB strings until earlier this year.

I love RPS 10s, but recently I bought a pack of the titanium coated 10s and they're even better!

I wasn't worried too much about longevity because I tend not to have very sweaty hands, so regular strings last me fine, but they keep their "new string" tone longer than regular strings and seem to sound a bit better to me on top of that- they have a bit more sparkle and harmonics on the wound strings seem easier. They also feel better to me, which may be purely in my head, but it almost seems like the wound strings have less give to them without being any thicker, which feels really great.

When you add up all that with the benefits of the wound plain strings (which help tuning stability more than anything else I've ever tried) these coated sets are pretty sick.

Does the coating on EB coated strings add any additional size? Example -- does a 10-46 gauge pack actually feel beefier?

Hi there,

I mainly use Regular Slinkys on my guitars, apart from a Brian May sig that I use Supers on (not that it comes out of it's case much) and my bitsa that I've got strung up with Not Even Slinkys and tuned down to C.

I tend to use regular strings... I used to rot through anything within a few hours of use (like Pete DuBaldo) and tried a variety of different brands/materials. I found stainless didn't suit my ears (though I can't remember exactly why), I had an allergy to pure nickel that made my fingers itch insanely after playing and the coating on the Elixer strings used to shred and hang off after time making the strings feel really weird.

Cheers,

Neil

My two favorite guages are the coated .010's for standard tuning and the coated .011's for D Standard. I find that they definitely do last 3-4 times longer than plain strings. Love em'.

Not had chance to try the coated guitar strings as of yet , but use 11s (power slinkys tuned down half a step on my 57' S***T) an swear by the regular coated on bass, best so far .
