I know I gave a "funny" answer earlier, but in all reality I don't really care what key the song is in. I play mostly by the pattern of the bass line so I can change keys on any song without much though to it.

Ditto for me. Though, I don't like it when I've got to play a D. That's such a pain in the ass (when the E string is not detuned)... Guess that's why they make fivers

That's why I've made the switch back to 5 string last year. I quit playing for a while in '93 and when I started up again, I went back to four string.

Us bass players have the luxuary of the same fingering for each scale.

So wouldnt playing in G major be exactly the same as playing in c major. (Apart from the obvious diferent notes).

or do you mean the difference between major, minor etc. If so i don't like melodic minors, cause you've gotta raise the (7th or 8th i forgot) on the way up, and lower on the way back.

That's true, and we all play patterns, but I really like to be able to use the open e string for slap funk lines.

ok, try this.

your guitarist has broken a string and you need to do a jam whilst he fixes it. you ask you keyboardist to jam in C# not a smart move

where as if you ask him to play in an easyer key, it will sound better

I like D minor, cause you can do some cool stuff with the open D string and minor scales on the g string together.
