How's everyone doing? Good! I'm feeling a little nostalgic today after playing, so I figured it was time for walk down memory lane.

I used to hang out and post a lot on petrucciforums.com between 2003 and 2007. It was there I met many great musicians and learned a lot about music and gear. I bought my first EB guitar in 2003 moving up from Ibanez, and I went through a gas phase buying and trading EB guitars between 2003-2006 until finally settling on my main guitar which I am still using today almost 20 years later.

My main guitar is a 2002 Black Sparkle Standard 6 with a matching headstock. I bought it used on eBay for $800 - sounds crazy nowadays - from the original owner. I've never felt the need to change anything about it, and it's still using the original pickups and hardware. I managed to put one small ding in the body that was easily concealed with black sparkle nail polish. It still plays and stays in tune perfectly despite having not set it up in years. Action is still 2/32. I still use Ernie Ball Slinky 10-46. I figured at some point I'll come across another guitar that will replace it, but so far I haven't.

During this time EB didn't spray any new sparkle guitars. I recall the issue EB cited was the sparkle paint would clog their spray gun. In any case, the sparkle guitars were rare finds at the time. Years later EB started spraying sparkle finishes again, but these original sparkle models are still incredibly difficult to find. There were some collectors who had bought up most of them back then like Ernie1966 which you can see by taking a peek at my Vintage EBJPM Gallery.

Here are EB guitars I owned before settling on my main. I tried many different guitars during this time including strats, teles, and other types from notable builders like Suhr, Anderson, etc., but it was an EBJPM that I stuck with.

2003 EBJPM Desert Gold] - 6-string (Headstock+Inlays+Piezo) - NEW $1550 (wish I had kept this one)

2002 EBJPM Silver Sparkle - 6-string (Headstock) USED $950

2004 EBJPM Sapphire Black 6-string (Headstock+Inlays+Piezo) NEW $1400

2004 EBJPM Envy Green Limited Edition - 7-string LE (Headstock+Inlays+Piezo) - NEW $1750

2002 EBJPM Black Sparkle - 6-string (Headstock) USED $800

Were you around during this time?
I certainly remember your name from the JP forum, but I doubt we ever argued as many there were prone to do!

I've gone through plenty of EBs over the years, rotating certain models through while always maintaining a fleet of JPs.

Typing this list out brings back some memories!

Some of the guitars I have sold:
1987 Steve Morse #4
2001/2002 White Sparkle JP6 (no options)
2001/2002 Silver Sparkle JP6 (no options)
2001/2002 Autumn Redrise JP6 (no options)
2001/2002 Blue Dawn Axis Sport HH Trem
2002 Blue Dawn Albert Lee HSS trem (one-off)
2005/2006 Candy Red JP6 (loaded)
2007 Blue Dawn L.E. JP6 (loaded)
2007 Blue Dawn L.E. Silhouette
2008? Pinkburst Albert Lee BFR
2009 Silhouette Gold Roller BFR
2009 25th Anniversary guitar (pre-Gamechanger/Reflex name)
2013 Emerald Sparkle PDN Y2D
SBMM Siberian Sapphire Majesty

I might be missing a few, but those are what immediately come to mind.

I still own mine from back in the 2000s. Can’t say I ever spent under 1k for any though!

Incidentally, the ones I’ve sold have been some of the best looking. Turquoise Pearl JPX with a roasted neck and a cardinal red sparkle JP13.

You could find a good deals on used ones like I did. I'm sure Pete DuBaldo could chime in with nostalgic price lists as he used to sell quite a few of them.
