I love my new used silo until I plugged it in to my amp last night.....myself and my band looked at me and realized it sounded well...kinda twangy for lack of better word, almost like a toy guitar...its hard to describe, I love the neck and all but has anyone else experienced it, I cant see needing more tension on the strings. Granted I have not replaced the strings yet and also it has 10's on it which I am not used to .......any thoughts, I find it hard to believe that anyone would be happy with the tone that is coming out of it....its so plunky......any thoughts or help......?

i do love the neck and the size of the guitar, not sure what to do..........

What amp and effects are you using ?

Its common when shifting from a well used and "known" guitar to a new one to find the tone very different indeed and its usually just a case of finding out how to set up your effects and amp to get the tone you want. I have had the same experience when moving to a PRS Swamp Ash. My advice would be to experiment with your rig in a reheasal situation so you can get everything set up at gig volumes and see how you get on. I'm sure you'll be able to get wht youre after - and probably the Silo will add new tones to your armoury when you get used to it.

I doubt its a deficient guitar.
Can comment specifically on the Silo - I'm collecting mine tomorrow !!
Good luck.

well, for me it has the best neck I've ever played, I do love my LP custom neck too, but for some reason this guitar neck I can do more and longer...I guess i have smaller hands and it works well..........the guitar is super quiet and have no issues with that, I can easily get a SRV sound without any problems...Its just that dang plunky sound when I roll off the volume, I'm going to put 9.5's on it this week and see what happens and then possibly have it set up for them....I'd hate to let this guitar go, I got a great deal on it...I played straight into my amp last night at practice, my strat doesnt get all plunky and this sucker has seymour duncans in it so I would excpect it to be even more hot rodded, doesnt seem to be though....I'm just a bit frustrated right now, it sucks having the perfect neck with a unsatisfactory sound.....plus it didnt help that my band was lauphing at it and said it looks like a baby guitar.....theyre idiots..

I find it hard to believe that you bought an electric guitar without playing through an amp first.

I don't know what guitar you used before, but the Silo is FAR from a toy guitar sound. Is the battery good?

BTW the guitar doesn't come from the factory with Duncans.

I only bought because I got a great deal and I read great reviews....and I couldnt find a dealer around that had one in stock....I dont have a problem buying stuff off ebay or wherever as long as I can break even when I sell it........and I shouldnt have a problem with it if I decide to sell it, but I wanna make this guitar work.. and no, I havent changed the battery.... I plan on getting one this weekend and a new set of strings and see what happens.....I'm not ripping on the guitar persay, I think its built nice all the way around.....its just plunky....

95% of the time I gig with an american strat....

If you are using a Strat most of the time, you should LOVE the Silo. That being said, the guitar is not stock, so I don't know how it would sound

see if there is a small capacitor across the volume pot input leg & output leg . ( output is the middle leg ) . if there is .....remove it. some people install a tiny cap as a high pass filter to allow treble to not be affected while rolling off volume . ( to different degrees depending on the size cap used ) . if it's got duncans in there......someones been in there doin something........

just an idea....

1.Check Wiring of the PUs
2.MM guitars have slightly more attack responce than other guitars-the attack is more dominant for my feel. In a Band situation more worth than gold.

Just a follow up. I live in the same neighborhood as neastguy and went over the other night and bought the guitar from him. I've played it at practice with my band and love it. I got no plunk at all. The only thing I did to the guitar was restring it, do a bit of action tweaking and raised the bridge humbucker a bit to level out the volume. It does have SD pup's in it, and I don't particularly like the HB sound, but I'll replace that anyway.

The guitar plays like a dream and sounds fantastic through my Boogie MK IV. I'm not sure where the plunky was coming from in the rig, but it wasn't the guitar.
