Awesome pic's!!! I'd like to go there someday myself. They supposedly have a "thriving" Christian church there, that I'd certainly like to visit!! Was that one pic of the "cross" that famous church??? Did you get a chance to play at all there?? Any MM guitars in the stores???
Beth: yep, it's a pretty kooky place especially that big music store/mall thing... crazy!
TNT: ya, there's a huge scene there. the pic of the cross was from the top of the church we were at (along with a few of the panoramic shots of the city) not sure if it was the 'famous' church in Seoul or not, it was a fairly new building and had some amazing architecture and the P.A. for F.O.H. ....... waaaay nice. but the language barrier still lead to some interesting monitor mixes
was a great time, didn't get a whole lot of looking around time. didn't see much MM but did see a whack of Roscoes @ a this small shop.[but the Bongo did rawwk the joint ]
Very cool pics Pete! I've only been to S. Korea once as a kid visiting my dad's old farm/house in the south countryside. There was a huuuuge bamboo forest rihgt out the back. One morning it was foggy and the bamboo looked liked it all went on forever, fading away in the distance! Ahhh good times.
When in Seoul, be sure to check out the West Rock Bar...
Last I was there, it was located across the street from the Millenium Seoul just up the road from the Nam Dae Mun market... Although, it may have moved, as the owner was talking of finding a new location last I was there (over a year ago). But, I think he planned to stay in the same area if he could.
The place is run by a guy named "Charlie"... It's really Americanized, so for me, it's like a home away from home.
Charlie loves American music, and most every night he has a local guy come in with a guitar and play some tunes. It's somewhat hilarious, as Koreas seem to be really big into American music that wasn't that popular here (they LOVE Lionel Ritchie!). And, most nights, they'll do some Karaoke as well.
If he's still in the old location (which I hope he is), the place is so tiny, but that's what makes it great.
Spending one night in Seoul is such a tease!
I spent one year there and I couldn't even begin to scratch the surface.
I hope the show/tour went well and the kim chee didn't upset your tummy too much!
definitely wasn't anywhere near enough time!!! the gig went great and the Kim Chi was easy on me but I'd love to go back and actually get some time to experience the country a bit more. on the upside, the flight back was good, the downside, I had the worst jet lag ever for the first two days back home....
where did you play? I live and work (and gig like mad) here in Seoul...wish I could have checked you and the Bongo out, shared a beer etc...maybe you could have come caught me in action with the SUB....
I forget the name of the church we were at but ya it was a blast and yes, Asiana Airlines is quite takes a great scenic route to Seoul from Seattle....
