Hello, this may be getting to be a bit of a wild goose chase, but if anyone knows I figured it would be you guys, so here goes...

I live in the UK and want to get my hands on a SUB Sterling, the big problems being the only places I found them for a good price are out of stock, and anywhere that does have them are all more expensive...
I found one at www.GAK.co.uk for £560 which I could have got, but had to wait a week and it has since been sold, so I am looking to find one at this price really, which is about as high as I can go (and I do realise thats a pretty heavily discounted price now, which is part of the problem) - I have found a couple more, but all for £600+

I would love to be able to spend more and grab one, or even a proper sterling, but being a student I can't really afford/justify that cost at the moment.

So does anyone know anywhere that has a SUB Sterling in stock for about my price (£560?) - preferably the cinammon or white colours if I get to be picky ;)

Guitartek have them listed on their website - not sure if they still have any in stock: http://www.guitartek.com/ or of the pricing - they may be willing to knock a bit off if they still have any.

I know DaveB who runs Machinehead has a SUB on the wall, but it's not a SUB Sterling.

Otherwise eBay is going to be your best bet I think, but I don't see them come up often.

Better than a standard SUB, sorry, it has the 3 band eq over the regular 2 band (or passive)

The one on ebay looks nice, but is starting at just over I can afford , so I can't see that happening, I have been keeping an eye on ebay, and there are some great deals, just all that bit over what I can afford, hence the search for a SUB

Fair enough, but if you are willing to shell out £560 for a SUB Sterling, in my opinion you'd be better off saving a little more (only about £40 more) to get the Sterling proper! I've recently seen a few go on ebay for less than £600 as Sterlings don't seem to be as popular as Rays on UK ebay, and the prices for both these basses have come down considerably over the last few years. I bought my first Ray (single H) over 2 years ago for £150 MORE than I bought my most recent HH Ray (go figure)! Keep watching ebay and I'm sure you'll find one at the price you are willing to spend. Good luck to you.

I am having a hrd enough time getting the ok from those above to spend £560 on a bass, £600+ is basically out of the question :( (however much I would love to own a full model)

The best I have is I have found on in black I can get for a fairly decent price, not the idea colour I was after (ie, cinammon) but one I could happily live with, I may have to investigate further.

+1 to everything Dave said - I reckon you'd be able to get yourself a bargain on eBay after Xmas as people suddenly realise they have spent too much and need to recoup some money!!!

I got my Sterling for £600, but only because LowDownDave is lovely and sold me his baby for a great price and it's now my baby...

But anyhow, DO keep an eye out on eBay - something else to consider is buying one from US eBay... with the £ vs $ conversion, if you can snag one for a good price and get decent shipping on it, you can come in for under £600, even when customs are factored in. I worked all this out for when I wanted to get my Sterling, and only had £600 to spend, and the US eBay route is certainly doable. There is a calculation for working out how much it will work out to if you get hit with Customs - if you want I can have a nosey for it so you can work out how much in $$$ you would be able to spend on an auction.

Secondhand could have some deals, just I am not particularly happy about spending that much on ebay, £20 for a cd or something small I can do, but £500+ is a lot of money to put on a secondhand instrument unseen (where I don't get too see all the little nicks and problems) and with all the shipping and so on.

I noticed there is a SUB sterling in the for sale thread here for $500 which converts into British money as some tiny little sum, (plus some shipping of course) but the risk of buying off a complete unknown to me puts me off (and with no real security in the transaction)...

Hey Narcosynthesis! I am the chick selling my SUB Sterling. She's a beauty and in good condition except for a shallow scratch on the back. It's in the "for sale " thread up of the forum. Or course, you would have to add shipping to the UK to the price and since I have never shipped a bass to the UK I have no idea how expensive that would be. HOWEVER, I have had one person from the UK contact me so you would have dibs after him if you are interested. I have to find out a shipping estimate and get back to him and see if he's still interested. The delay has been in me acquiring the packaging and getting a shipping quote to figure out if it's worth it for someone from the UK to pay for the shipping. But if you would like me to keep you in mind if he doesn't buy it pm me!!

The Sub Sterling is the best SUB in my opinion. They have the best electronics and the great neck and sleek bodies. Great buy. I would keep her but I am about to acquire a Bongo 5 string (I wanted a 5 string from the start but the SUB5 was waay to heavy and cumbersome for me) and need to pay for it. Too broke for two basses right now.

As far as the payment, we can Paypal.

What colour is your bass?

I am tempted, but theres still the issue of buying uninsured off a forum... (nothing against you of course, just in general $500 is still a fair amount to send to someone unknown to you for a bass)

If you feel uncomfortable you could always have the seller put on Ebay with a "Buy It Now"(and you knowing exactly when it would be listed) and then pay with PayPal.This would protect both of you.

Thanks for the tip Randracula! I never thought of that! And I definitely understand Narcosynthesis' hesitation in a $500+ transaction.

Narcosynthesis, my bass is my avatar and it's picture is up on the for sale thread. It's like a textured blue pearl finish. Very attractive.

Like I mentioned, somebody else from the UK has contacted me already about it. If you would like to be contacted by me if he changes his mind I will.

I have to grab some sturdy boxes from Guitar Center and get a quote. Still trying to decide if I should just pay UPS pack it with a guarantee. Of course it would be insured but I still wouldn't want the bass damaged anyway. I don't know how good of a job they do.

I am very tempted, just still with my reservations (as above) I guess keep me in mind hsould it not work out, but I still can't say for sure yet

I hadn't seen any good photos of that colour before, rather nice it is too...

That's cool David. No worries. If you change your mind just check the for sale thread and see if I sold it or not. I'll update there if it's sold.
