Question Finish issues ???

Hello

I was browsing the ad on a French music forum, and I found this :
Music Man Silhouette Special HSS d’occasion - Zikinf

The Silo is from 2001 and it is surprising, because there is a finish issue :


It is the first time I see this sort of issue on a MusicMan (2001 : poly finish).

Yes I saw that one this morning too. We've seen something like that a few times over the years. It is a rare occurrence and is usually attributed to excess exposure to moisture, often storage issue. In this case, I note it is on the 'tummy cut', my guess is that there was a ding or dent in the finish, a prior owner of the guitar may have sweated a lot and not usually wiped the guitar down after. Moisture gets in, the wood swells a little, relaxes back, repeat, finish eventually cracks some more, more moisture wicks in over time, etc.

Wow 2001 would make that a sparkle finish from the looks of it. That is really too bad it's like that.

My '99 Axis Sport had the exact same condition which I assumed was something from the period that happened as it aged.

The ad says it's a Blue Dawn / Blue sparkle finish.

The guitar is well worn ... the guy played a lot with it

I would want enough off the for a refinish job. At least then you could revive it into a groovy 1-off.

If you look at Roy Ziv's beloved 2005 Silho Special, it suffers from the same issue.
My Silho (I bought it used) has a small area on top, near the tremolo plate, where paint did a similar job (but it's stable, at the moment).
One can keep the guitar as it is and just play it or pay for a refin.

Seems like the laquer is just craking from the inside - Not funny:-(
