Question Finish on an '80 Sabre neck?

Hi gang - I tried the Search function first, I swear.

I just acquired a maple/maple Sabre neck that was once fretted but then converted to fretless. The board itself is bare; I'd like to clean it up and finish it to match the headstock and back. Would it have been nitro or poly? Any particular formulation available today that's a close match? Surely there've been some restorations discussed on this board.

Side question: what size Allen wrench to use on the saddle screws of an early-80's 'Ray?

The original Sabre's were a Finished Neck but as for what was used Rod Trussbroken, he's your Man !!!

The necks were done with laquer rather than polyurethane or polyester finishes (1980 MM catalogue)
