First bass line on your first MM

The riff from 'Day Tripper' by the Beatles in 'E' . . . I find it's good for testing out a 4 string bass in shops and in '77 it was still fresh in my mind.
Nowadays of course I'd spin out a few Wooten riffs higher up the neck too . . .

But what do aspiring young bass players subject shop staff to these days?

I still get HEAPS of kids playing Higher Ground and Come As You Are and things like that, some Blink 182 and stuff like that, but it hasn't really changed in the last 3 or 4 years

I always play "Distant Early Warning" by Rush when I pick up a bass for the first time.

"Thanks, Ben! We care!"

That or "Tempus Fugit" by Yes are usually my first.

Or if I am in a jaunty mood "Instrumental Medley '85" by Fairport Convention

First thing I always play when pickin up a bass is the solo riff in Number of the beast by Iron Maiden fingerstyle, or if a pick is handy I'll bust out the intro to Still by Rufio.

I slapped some Marcus Miller riffs on my SR5 last year. Can't believe I played for 13 years on a Fender.

When I tried the Bongo at GC I believe it was walking the changes to All the Things You Are and then maybe a Bb blues.

After owning several basses before I heard of EBMM basses, the first thing I play on any bass is the G string at the 5th fret, looking for the dead spot, none found, bought 7 EBMM's since.
