I am not for or against signatures models - it really depends on the merits of the instrument itself and not the name on it.

One thing that might be cool is to have someone like Tony Levin pick a unique colour and name it after him (maybe a limited run, maybe not). Levin Lavender, Myung Maroon, etc...

I like this idea. A stock bass with a unique color more to honor the player than to make a signature model. A Glascock blondie?

I already have a Trans Black Tony.

yeah.. you and tony.. the only 2 who got one ;)

i cried my eyes out when that clb auction went by my radar.. i would absolutely love a black 20th sr5!!!

MrM

Sorry to say but that was such a coincidence. I had NO idea that the auction existed even 15 minutes before it ended. I just stumbled upon it since I was out looking for a Stingray 5 at that exact moment. I would have missed it if I had searched eBay 20 minutes later. I stumbled upon the auction about 10 minutes before it ended. I checked my bank account, how much a regular Stingray 5 costed in Sweden at that time, exchange rate and cost for shipping very quick and placed a bid around 5 SECONDS before the auction ended.

Beautiful bass. I´ve used it on about 3 or 4 recordings in the studio that I run but I don´t dare to take it out on gigs. I had to buy a regular 20th 5-string too that I use all the time since I´m too scared to ruin the trans black. Just love those anniversary basses. :)

Those one offs are a burden, aren't they?

Oh, gosh, they must be!

I mean, that Open House mahogany Bongo weighs so MUCH. (I know, I've held it.)

And it just has to be taking up a lot of space in the vault that could be used for more deserving instruments.

Look, I'm a philanthropic adopting kind of person. (No kidding, I own three retired greyhounds.)

I'll give it a good home, and all the love and attention it deserves if you send it to me.

Really!

:)

adouglas - you're already a Bongoloid.

I, on the other hand, have yet to be converted. This could convert me. :D

Handy-dandy 12-step guide to becoming a Bongoloid:

Step 1:
Find a Bongo

Step 2:
Play it

Step 3:
Listen and be blown away

Step 4:
Go home and wait for the itchy feeling caused by the Mind Control Rays

Step 5:
Resist and come up with reasons not to

Step 6:
Make Bongo jokes about toilet seats

Step 7:
Rationalize about needing a Bongo

Step 8:
Worry that you might become part of the creepy Bongo cult

Step 9:
Play Bongo again

Step 10:
Start thinking it could really be that cool

Step 11:
Try to talk yourself out of it

Step 12:
Succumb

See? Wasn't that easy?

I hate signature basses, I feel having somebody else signature on the headstock puts you inmediately on a amateur level.
I hope MusicMan continue to keep the policy of trusting exclusevly in the quality of their basses as they do now.

Thanks for you "professional" opinion.

Signature or not...you either can play or you need to practice more. I simply like my bongo just the way it is.

The problem is (or isn't) that EBMM produces in whole range sooo goood and professional basses, so there's almost impossible to make many more improvements!

But who knows, maybe somewhere, some of famous bass players could add his/hers personal "touch" to one of models?

Look at the EBMM guitars for example, every signature model is personalized, but it's mostly accepted from many professional not famous musicians around the world!

Conclusion:
I would not completely ruled out idea of EBMM signature bass series, but major question is: Who will be the artist which deserves EBMM signature bass?

P.S. ... my guitarist from a band uses EBMM John Petrucci guitar and he isn't even a fan of JP, but when he took that guitar in his hands, he said, yeah, that's it, I'll take it, and believe me it was very expensive instrument, but he bought it without blink with eyelid! ;)
Must add, he's versatile virtuoso guitar player, but he is not hesitated to buy a guitar with someone other signature on it!

Something that just crossed my mind... would John Myung play a Dave La Rue signature Bongo? Or Tony Levin play a Phoenix signature StingRay? And what would fans of the respective players think of this? I know I'd find that odd, but I like green unlined fretless basses, so who am I to judge?

its funny When I made EVH a baritone Keith Richards wanted one but wouldnt paly one shaped like EVH so I made the Silhouette Baritone for him. Thats how that came about

Generally speaking artists dont play other artists signature guitars unless they are friends the exceptions that come to mind are....

Ive seen Joe Bonamassa play a Y2D..seen Joe Walsh with a JP and a luke and a BENJI MADDEN!!!!.....seen forgerty with a JP.......
