On the dark side (The Bass Forum :D ), fellow forumite BOOST has asked the thick stringed people "what was their first bass?"

So lets not let the Dark Side of the Force have all the fun!!

What was your first Guitar and amp ?

Mine was a red Watkins Rapier 44 (4 pickups) and my first amp was an Impact 60 watt amp with 4 x 12" Fane speakers.

Guitar wise I then went Gibson SG (a la Townshend) sold it to get the Les Paul I have now ( a la Kossoff)

Amp wise I went from Impact 60 to 100 watt HH followed by a 100 watt Laney Clip, then to a Marshall 50 head then to a Burmann 60 watt combo then to a Marshall combo.
Not much gear spanning 32 years !!!

I don't think theres enogh space on EB's server for some of you to list all your gear LOL! ;)

Mine was a Hondo Strat copy with a Crate 15w amp.

Both pieces of crap.

I had a strat copy back in the early 1980's! called an 'Artist' and a Laney 40 Watt Session Reverb - wow I'm amazed I remembered that!
I then had a 1968 Telecaster - but that didnt last long owing to it being the decade of the pointy headstock and locking trem - from which I never recovered because I can't work without a locking trem!:D
Does anyone keep tabs on the guitars they have owned over the years - I cant remember - but I think I might try and write a list - could be interesting!
Quest for the Music Man - the movie!:p

The first guitar / amp combo I owned were a Univox Custom (black LP copy w/gold hardware) and a Stage 410 (solid state amp). Late 70's before they switched to the Westbury name (I also had a Westbury accoustic).
My father knew an exec at Gulf & Western which was the Unicord parent company at the time so he got some kind of deal for me as a Christmas gift.

Before that I had been playing with a surf green Danelectro w/ 3 lipsticks and a Fender Champ which a neighbor loaned me for a while. His family owns a music rental supply house in NYC.

Although at the time, and as a dumb teenager, the Univox and the Stage had much more "image" appeal, looking back, I sure wish I could have kept that old Dano and the Champ....Oh well :(

I started with an old National hollow-body (neck and body only) that I had to scavenge ALL the parts and hardware for. I wired it up myself, too - and it still plays! The first electric I bought was an Aria Pro II. - It sucked hardcore, but I put up with it until I bought an '67 Gibson V which I played until I wore through the bridge pickup, whereupon I bought an '87 Kramer, followed by my custom 7 and then the Blue Dawn JP. Been buying balls ever since :)

Ampwise I started with an old Randall PA that my parents used to use for gigs back in the late 70s, early 80s. PA + Tubescreamer = 15yr old rock guitarist bliss. I've since moved to a small solid state cheapo Ventura amp for practice, and a Soldano SLO-100 for rockin out.

My First guitar was an Ibanez Roadstar II Steve Lukather model.....HA HA HA:D
They were made for a Very short time in the early 80's. It had an Incredible Neck on it. Hmmm just like Lukathers EBMM!!!! I'm not obsessed... really I 'm Not!!:) I found it Sitting in a Music Store in Hollywood in 1989. Still new... it was about 6 years old at that point. I got it very Cheap! It was stolen off my back by 3 guys in a van as I was walking home from a guitar lesson...:(

My First amp was a Carvin 1X12 which I ran A Boogie Studio Preamp Into.

I got my first guitar and amp in the mid 70's, an Ibanez replica of a 335 and a Peavey Pacer amp. The Ibanez was actually a pretty good guitar, beyond adequate for a beginner. The Peavey on the other hand was lacking in the gain area, it basically didn't have any. After a few years of playing, I wanted to upgrade to a better sounding amp, but I just didn't have the money for it. I wound up buying a Proco Rat distortion box when they first came out, and ran it through the front of the Peavey. That box turned the amp into a fire breather. I used the Rat as my high gain channel and just turned it off when I needed a clean sound.

1st amp: Marshall AVT 50 combo
(I'm assuming a Rockman "Metal Ace" 9v battery-operated headphone amp doesn't count. :D )

Hmm, a mid-eighties Tokai strat TST-56 and a Spectra 50w combo. The Tokai went from the stock Candy Apple Red to 77 Oldsmobile Green w/Floyd Rose and a plethora of diff. humbuckers. I still have the Tokai but presently it is in pieces because I had the body painted in a metalflake tangerine.
