Musicians Friend Response to a request for a quote on a Walnut Stain SR5 SUB

Hi Mike,

Thanks for writing. Currently we only have black/satin finish as listed on the website. However, we may be able to special order the Walnut finish directly from the manufacturer. Please see the special order stipulations listed below:

· Special orders are billed at the time the order is placed.
· Special orders are non-cancelable once the order is placed.
· Due to operational logistics, all special orders are subject to a $100 minimum order.
· Special orders are non-returnable unless the item is defective, at which point we will accept the item back in exchange for the same item.
· Unfortunately, we are unable to offer any discounts or promotional price matches on special orders as they are non-regular stocked items. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I actually spoke with 2 dealers who would be able to order the SUB 5 WS no problem, and one had it already coming in. That was back in LATE August. I had no idea Pat left SBMM.

When I talked to the people at Praxis, the USA distributor, I was told that the SB4 was currently a Guitar Center-only item and it was only available in black/maple. My understanding was that was why it wasn't on the website.

New bassist here, looking to get my first and I've been doing research on this SUB bass. Looks like Musicians Friend has the International versions available, where the colors are swapped for some reason. Here's a link on Sterling's site:
S.U.B. Basses International - Welcome to the Sterling by Music Man Website

It's seems like any other USA Sterling dealer besides Guitar Center/Musicians Friend will have the USA colors:

I have two being delivered tomorrow one is a honey burst 4 string and the other is a 5 string walnut finish. These basses and guitars in the sub series are the best in their price point category. Only musicman and Sterling by musicman will give you this kind of quality at an insanely low price. I must give props to Brian Martin and everyone at Sterling by musicman and also to Sterling himself for giving the people what they want and what they need to make harmonious music. No other company can do it like this and no other company I can foresee in the near future will have anything of this great quality at this price point. EBMM & Sterling by Musicman hits another grand slam on this one. :)

I spent some time with a Walnut Stain SUB 4 at the Englewood GC this afternoon. What an impressive bass! The narrow profile neck felt great, the 2 band EQ (with center detents) sounded clear, punchy and had that familiar growl when I dug in. The Walnut Satin finish looked very sharp. The setup and intonation was right on the money. Man, what a bargain. I played some of the other MMs hanging on the wall and if it was a blindfold test, I doubt I would have been able to tell the difference. I would have walked out with it but I'm a little over-bassed right now. For that price, they are incredible.

I was reading this thread and thinking...why are these people all wanting walnut stain, how good could that even look? (no offense)
Then I saw the pictures on the website. That looks really fantastic!

And a usual, pictures don't do it justice. Looks and feels very nice.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1348734545.356594.jpg I'm not sure if I posted this picture in this forum yet but here is the walnut finish for the ray5.. I did post the pictures and some other threads but most of the were of the ray 4 & 5 next to each other.. They both play very well and my son is learning bass on four string and I'm using a five string to sharpen up as I'm not really a bass player much

understood, we used to have a great insider contact from the US Distributor on here (Pat Park) but he has since left and we don't have his replacement to ask these kind of questions to.

Any and all questions/correspondence/love/hate/ideas can be directed to me regarding anything Sterling By Music Man and SUB Series.

I can also be directly emailed at: [email protected] Be sure to put EBMM Forum Question in the heading.
