hey everyone i am new to this forum but am a member of the seymour duncan forum and the gear page. i have heard a lot of stuff about this forum so i figured i would check it out. i am not sure if this is allowed but i need some help on figuring out if i got ripped off on a music man axis.
i ordered it used from a store. but they misled me on the condition of it when i called to talk to them before i ordered it. i am not going to name the place i got it from. some of my issues i asked about dings they said there was a few but nothing bad which is true. i asked about paint chips and they said there was none. but there is one on the top. i asked about fret wear and they said there was none. but the first few frets have grooves in them.
none of it is anything major but the lied to me up front about it. the have offered to give me a refund which i might take. but i have wanted and axis for a long time and am disabled so i do not have much money and i am afraid i will not be able to get another.
i am not trying to slam anyone or anything i was just wondering what an axis in that kind of shape would go for. that way i can determine if i should demand any money back if i keep it.

Moon,

Not sure what to say???

Without getting into the details of what you said; I think you can satisfy yourself simply by pricing a new Axis, (what it would reasonably go for), and then possibly subtracting a small percentage for the things you mentioned.

It's great that the dealer offered you a refund though - good piece of mind. I'm sure others will come on after me and give you more help.

I would do a search on EBay and see what second hand ones sell for.....it would also show you what else is available.....you might want to take the refund & buy something in better shape, EBay prices will probably be less than shop ones.

Well I cannot say that you were ripped off as they were pretty much on the up and up with you and are willing to give you a refund. As far as what the guitar is worth that is subjective. What year is the guitar first of all, secondly when buying used a lot of things can factor in like color and the figuring on the neck and body. You may see two guitars from the same year on ebay in the same shape but a certain color or one that is heavily quilted or flamed or has a lot more birdseye in the neck will sell faster and for a bit more. I would try and work with them if the guitar is to your liking and say he you said there were no chips but there is one and also some fret wear, I will take the guitar if you take care of the fret work which should only be a light dressing. Good Luck

The fact that they offered you a refund sort of means that there's no way you've been ripped off. I've bought/sold a bunch of used guitars. Maybe 1/3 that I've bought have been from a used guitar chain local to me. Even when I go and look and play one in person, I don't find every little problem. It's after having it home for a little bit that I find everything. The chain I use has a 2 week return policy and a 30 day warantee period. I have used the warantee on one guitar that had a bad pickup and they simply replaced the pickup for free.

Keep in mind with looking at eBay that if you do buy, you could be stuck if the condition is not truthfully stated. I tend to stick with craigslist and music shops for local people and the ability to look at and check over whatever I'm buying. I also use Craigslist to sell and describe to the best of my ability what's wrong with a guitar, but won't ship....the buyer has to look and be happy with it before I'll sell to them.
