I am doing some research on getting a Sil Spec. I am currently playing a Parker Fly Deluxe, but I am in the mood for something different. I have not been able to find a Sil Spec anywhere to try out. I know the neck is going to be different than the Parker, but I do have a question about the string spacing. I have played a few Axis models that were very nice. My only complaint about them was that the high e string was too close to the edge of the fretboard. Almost on the very edge of the frets. Is it the same way with the Sil Spec? I have played a Suhr Standard with the same 1-5/8 nut as the Sil Spec, and the strings were, for me, comfortably spaced and safely away from the edge of the fretboard. I wonder if it is because the Axis neck is slightly slimmer at the neck pocket(according to specs on the site).

Second question- How does the guitar balance? I have no questions about the quality. I have played many Music Man guitars. Mostly Petrucci's and Axis models. Loved all of them, but I am in the Market for a H/S/S guitar. Opinons welcome.

Welcome S4H! I'm a former Parker owner, and I think you'll be very happy with the Sil. Spec... I have both the Silhouette Special and Axis, and the Special's neck does seem to offer a little more fretboard realestate on the high E side - probably for the reason you mentioned. As to balance, a Silhouette can disappear on the strat - it's not quite as light as a Fly, but it's beautifully balanced - everything falls in line just as it should when you strap on a Silhouette Special...

Howdy,

Never owned either but played both. I've found the parker neck to chunky for my smallish hands. EBMM necks way more user friendly.

I'd urge you to try and find a EBMM LUKE model if you're looking for a s/s/h pickup layout. I own 3. 1 with piezo. 2 without.
I'm big on the emg's in it.

You may have to special order a silo special or a luke if you want the piezo option. They're harder to find than a bible at a strip club.

It was fun cruising through your site. Lots of good info.

I know that the Special won't be as light as the Parker. COuld care less about that since I know that the Special is still a very light guitar, and that no other guitar will be even close to as light weight. I am a big balance freak. I hate the feeling of using my fretting hand to hold a guitar in place while I am playing. SO ANNOYING!! I am really looking forward to trying one, but it seems I may have to just order one since they are hard to find. Not a big deal. I already found an excellent dealer with an awesome price. I still haven't decided about hard tail or trem. There will be piezos (the Fly has spoiled me on them). I also have the pickup replacements picked out. DiMarzio Air ZOne in the bridge and two Fast Track 1's. I am going to have to change out the 250 pots for 500's. All this is going to cost hundreds less than the Parker. Not to pick on that guitar since it has served me well for years, but the switch and knob placement are really head scratchers. The guitar does sing though. I just need to have my "Andy Timmons" type guitar for some scortching strat sounds. Thanks for the help. It is good to know that there is some extra room on the high e. Gives me more peace about ordering in the future.

If you found the Parker to be chunky, then I would probably find the Luke to be on the small side. I won't discount the idea though. I really think the Sil Special is the one for me.
