As you may have guessed, this is a question on maple tops, specifically the standard Axis. What I want is Pacific Blue Burst in a quilt top. Do I have to specify the top when I order, are all bursts quilts, or do I only get a quilt top if I pay the additonal fee for the premium quilt? I'm easily confused :D

i don't know dude. that may be a tall order. i wouldn't think that you could specify your top. i would think that you get what they send?

maybe i'm wrong

Ali,

to be certain of getting a quilt rather than a flame the only way is to order the premium top upgrade. Plus it'll be prettier wood too!

Keep saving ;-)

I think that if you pay the extra dough for the "custom" treatment you can specify flame or quilt as well as having an exceptionally good top.
Otherwise I should imagine you have no choice.
I may be wrong however.

This leads me to this question, for us that have the sparkle finishes on our maple capped ebmm's did you use the same maple top's or were certain woods earmarked for the solid colours? It would seem silly to have a great quilt or flame underneath a solid...

Cheers

Lew is correct. You can choose either falme or quilt once you pay for the premium top option. The list price for the option is $500.

I would prefer a quilt top but I don't think I $500 prefer it  Guess it's up to the luck of the draw then... ;)

I recently spoke to customer service about the 'premium top' option. They explained to me that while this option is awesome it could delay shipment of the guitar signficantly. There's two reasons for this: The list of customers who want this option and the fact that they have to wait for the best tops to come in. So lets say typical turnaround for a standard topped Axis is 3 months but the premium top could take 10 months or more.

That may not be as much a problem. It means I could get the order placed earlier and still give plenty of time to save up :D

...and change my mind perhaps several times.
:D

also, it would give you some time to get to know your Luke.

Possibly the same reason gestation takes 9 months. Not 1 or 2.
