After much debate in my head from listening to both of my basses I decided to take the TI-Jazz flats off of my SR5HH and put them on my P Bass. I put the original rounds (whatever came with the bass from the factory) back on.

I am more versatile with my sound and the SR is now sounding better with more bite and with the new Mesa Boogie 400+ the P Bass is sounding even better.

I just don't think the SR5HH is as versatile with flats on it. Much more punch now, especially the B string which sometimes struggles the way it is.

Opinions????

I have to disagree. I love my SR5 and Sterling 5 with flats. I just dial in more highs and some mids to get a very punchy but smooth tone,

Originally I put on EB flats then replaced them with the TI Jazz and I am sticking with them, just on the P bass now

My tastes change often, just like yours! That's why I keep one stingray with flats and one with rounds at all times! Sometimes, I need the funk and other times I need the dirt. O Yeah!

I have used TI flats for many years now but have recently switched to DR Sunbeams 45 - 105. They have a very smooth feel for rounds and don't give me that normal zingy tone that I got and hated from all other rounds.

I now have the mid punch and focus that I always wanted and liked with a great harmonic sheen to the tone without ripping my ears off. The guys in the band really like the way the bass is now sitting in the mix. It is more prominent but without overlapping into the guitar.

Yes, I am thrilled that I made the switch. My P Bass has never sounded so good, the guitarist and drummer made positive comments tonight (I rarely if ever play the P anymore).

The SR5 sounds much better with the original rounds back on and with the Mesa Boogie 400+ it is great. I never use a pick but decided to at rehearsal tonight and WOW, did the SR5 come to life.

I now have fantastic versatility just from a string swap.
