Flats on a 30th anniversary??

Anyone have any feedback good, bad or indifferent?? I use the 30th mostly for fingerstyle funk, in particular that real 70's sound; ala The Meters/Cymande/The JB's/Leroy Hutson/Parliament-Funkadelic ect, ect.

I believe the general consensus here (I don't have a 30th) is that flats on it are a match made in heaven.

Not too sure how it would suit your style of music, but the tone they give is supposed to be incredible!

Make sure you put EB flats on it tho

I want to put flats on my StingRay5.
And put Stainless Steel strings on my Sterling.

But which ever way. Flats supposedly sound great on StingRays, but like I said earlier, not sure how well it would work for funk (even fingerstyle funk). I wonder if it would work for rock and such. :/

Yep. I love playing old Stax stuff, too, on my 30th with flats. It also works extremely well within the punkabilly/y'allternative CoWpilot context.

Flats, especially EB Flats, on a 30th Ann Stingray would destroy some funk. Mahogany body? Oh, yeah. Dirty funk. Funk that's illegal in 7 states and the District of Columbia.

Just 7 states... I think you are sadly mistaken... I beleive the number is in the low 40's (there are still a few backwoods states that don't know what funk is )

FYI my GC had it's 30th restrung with flats - Rays aren't my thing anymore but it rocked!!!!!!! (thankfully my GC card was at home)

Flats sound great on any Stingray. Also, I'll second the recommendation for EB flats -- I like the Group IIs. Punchy and focused like you wouldn't believe. It will sound great for fingerstyle funk!

My band is pretty damned hard rock, not quite metal, but it's heavy... and I exclusively use flats on an SR5 fretless tuned G# C# F# B E. I get tons of compliments on the bass and the band gets tons of compliments for sounding unique and full, "much bigger than a four piece"

I can imagine it would work fine. My post was tongue in cheek - flats work great for rock.
